It’s the transition that’ll bite ya! Both of these rudiments are quite simple on their own (with practice) but transitioning back and forth from one to the other is a WHOLE different story. One that will cause you to combine my name with many cuss words 😂. I hope you enjoy this short drum lesson! 🍵🙏🍵🙏

What a night!!! Snares & Matcha 4.0 was a blast. There is genuinely NOTHING in the world quite like the drumming community. Kind, welcoming people with a passion for sharing their journey and their love for this wonderful instrument. I’m one lucky teacher! 🍵🙏🍵🙏

As promised, here’s a fun little drum set independence exercise with the Shirley Murphy. I shan’t lie, those triplets at the end were WAY harder than I thought they were gonna be, LOL. Enjoy 🍵🙏🍵🙏

I love when logic and art combine to make something wonderful. The Shirley Murphy (hybrid rudiment) is an absolute gem. Get this down today, and tomorrow I’ll show you how to use it on the kit! Hope you enjoy this short drum lesson 🍵🙏🍵

Improving your triplet flow (both ways) on the drum kit isn’t easy, but this exercise/pattern will definitely help. It’s those two little kicks that make this thing flow like… well, things that flow really well, lol. I hope you enjoy this short drum lesson, and add it to your daily “Stage 1” practice routine.

Chops don’t get you fired. However, CHOICES are what can get you in a bit of trouble. Choosing to dominate the verse with a beat-displaced-metric-modulated-polyrhythmic quintuplet fill is on you, not the fill itself. Also, be kind, show up early, help out, and always make sure you have the proper well-maintained gear for the gig. Focus on great musical choices and being a good hang and you’ll be in high demand!

Here are 4 triplet-based sticking patterns to help you explore the world of triplet grooves. Get each one of them down separately, then start to combine them for some real sauce! 🍵🔥🍵🔥

Just a simple reminder that it’s ok to prioritize FUN in your drumming from time to time. 🍵🙏🍵🙏

Triplet Sticking Patterns! It always blows me away how much simple sticking patterns morph into something completely different as soon as you separate your hands on to different sound sources. What’s your favorite sticking pattern when played on two different surfaces?
