PTA PRESIDENT UPDATE - forgive the length!
Hello all,
First, please forgive the lack of communication on this. I am the Sutter MS PTA Communications chair. Our past President has moved on to bigger things (high school!) and we have not had a full PTA Board to fill all the other open positions that might have helped me juggle all the pre-start-of-school stuff – including filling the President’s role.
Here is what I know. Because PTA is a non-profit, we have to follow certain rules including voting in a PTA President before the role can be official.
We have had one amazing person nominate themselves for president (Anu Nandagopal) and many folks who suggested that they can if necessary or if they have more info. PLEASE PLEASE come to the first PTA meeting so we can try and get a PTA Board filled. The more volunteers we have, the less work it will be for all. I do not know all positions that need to be filled but if I recall, Pres, Vice Pres, Secretary for sure and then positions such as Membership Chair, Fundraising Chair, 8 Grade Promotion Lead and others. We have some positions that are co-chairing too! Again, the more folks we have volunteer, the more likely you’ll get a co-chair.
PTA MEETING:
AUGUST 12, at 6pm in Room A-108 (just past the library)
Here is a list of PTA Board Job Descriptions: https://capta.org/toolkit/home/job-descriptions/. We at Sutter MS don’t need all of these filled but if you are interested in one more than another, please show up and let us know!
PTA can take as much or as little time as you can give. Typically, we have a one-hour meeting per month and - depending on your position or the event coming up – additional time needed can generally be done when it’s convenient for you. For example, as the Communications chair, I respond to PTA emails, design flyers, edit the webpage, post to social media, and coordinate with SMS staff to blast info via Parent Square. About 3 hours a month on this stuff is all I need.
I also volunteer for the additional committees like dance planning and fundraising events so I typically volunteer an additional 5 hours a month.
Consider coming to the August 12 meeting so we can start this year off right. The more volunteers we have the more we can lead and support school activities!
Sorry for the length, hope to meet you soon!
