One day a teacher asked her students to list the names of the other students in the room on two sheets of paper, leaving a space between each name.

Then she told them to think of the nicest thing they could say about each of their classmates and write it down.

It took the remainder of the class period to finish their assignment, and as the students left the room, each one handed in the papers.

That Saturday, the teacher wrote down the name of each student on a separate sheet of paper, and listed what everyone else had said about that individual.

On Monday she gave each student his or her list. Before long, the entire class was smiling. 'Really?' she heard whispered. 'I never knew that I meant anything to anyone!' and, 'I didn't know others liked me so much,' were most of the comments.

No one ever mentioned those papers in class again. She never knew if they discussed them after class or with their parents, but it didn't matter. The exercise had accomplished its purpose. The students were happy with themselves and one another. That group of students moved on.
Several years later, one of the students was killed in
Vietnam and his teacher attended the funeral of that special student. She had never seen a serviceman in a military coffin before. He looked so handsome, so mature.

The church was packed with his friends. One by one those who loved him took a last walk by the coffin. The teacher was the last one to bless the coffin.

As she stood there, one of the soldiers who acted as pallbearer came up to her. 'Were you Mark's math teacher?' he asked. She nodded: 'yes.' Then he said: 'Mark talked about you a lot.'

After the funeral, most of Mark's former classmates went together to a luncheon. Mark's mother and father were there, obviously waiting to speak with his teacher.

'We want to show you something,' his father said, taking a wallet out of his pocket 'They found this on Mark when he was killed. We thought you might recognize it.'

Opening the billfold, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. The teacher knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which she had listed all the good things each of Mark's classmates had said about him.

'Thank you so much for doing that,' Mark's mother said. 'As you can see, Mark treasured it.'

All of Mark's former classmates started to gather around. Charlie smiled rather sheepishly and said, 'I still have my list. It's in the top drawer of my desk at home.'

Chuck's wife said, 'Chuck asked me to put his in our wedding album.'

'I have mine too,' Marilyn said. 'It's in my diary'

Then Vicki, another classmate, reached into her pocketbook, took out her wallet and showed her worn and frazzled list to the group. 'I carry this with me at all times,' Vicki said and without batting an eyelash, she continued: 'I think we all saved our lists'

That's when the teacher finally sat down and cried. She cried for Mark and for all his friends who would never see him again.

The density of people in society is so thick that we forget that life will end one day. And we don't know when that one day will be.

So please, tell the people you love and care for, that they are special and important. Tell them, before it is too late.

And One Way To Accomplish This Is: Forward this message on. If you do not send it, you will have, once again passed up the wonderful opportunity to do something nice and beautiful.

If you've received this, it is because someone cares for you and it means there is probably at least someone for whom you care.

If you're 'too busy' to take those few minutes right now to forward this message on, would this be the VERY first time you didn't do that little thing that would make a difference in your relationships?

The more people that you send this to, the better you'll be at reaching out to those you care about.

Remember, you reap what you sow. What you put into the lives of others comes back into your own.

As we age, our bodies don’t work the same way that they used to. But don’t worry! You can hack into your system with supplements to keep everything running as it always has. Start with these five:

-Vitamin C: This one helps with hormones. If you’re having trouble staying calm and find yourself getting frazzled or angry a lot, you might be deficient. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about taking a supplement.

-Magnesium: This one is extra important if you’re a woman over 35 dealing with PMS. Magnesium helps alleviate muscle spasms, i.e. period cramps.

-Vitamin D: You reach your peak bone mass around age 30, after that, calcium is super important. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. It also keeps your skin from getting dry and is a good supplement for anyone who is post-menopausal.

-Omega-3: This stuff lowers stress hormones and reduces inflammation, which is the root of many diseases. Unless you eat fish every day, consider an omega-3 supplement.

-Selenium: This one helps regulate the thyroid, which has a tendency to become more unpredictable and persnickety as you age. Conveniently, one of the best ways to get your selenium is by eating two Brazil nuts per day. That’s all!

A new study shows that drinking a cup of beetroot juice each day significantly lowered blood pressure in people with hypertension. How? Beets are full of nitrates, and your body converts nitrates to nitric oxide, which relaxes arteries and improves blood flow.

If you’re reaching for vegetable or peanut oil every time you’re making a stir-fry or some scrambled eggs, it might be making you sick.

Vegetable oils contain omega-6 fatty acids, the not-so-healthy cousin of omega-3 (that’s the kind in olive oil, nuts, and salmon that has anti-inflammatory properties).

In a recent study, the authors wrote that the ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 is 1 to 4.

But in the past few decades, we’ve been eating a lot more omega-6s, and this ratio has shifted to 15 to 1. This increase could explain the rise in chronic inflammatory conditions like obesity, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

NOTE: other oils that could throw off your omega-3 balance are corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, grade seed oil, and condiments like mayonnaise and salad dressings. If you eat a lot of this stuff, cut back and make the switch to olive oil.

-Eat more protein. Studies show that eating more protein reduces the degree to which the sight of crave-worthy foods, like a box of donuts in the office, activates the brain’s reward system.

-Avoid artificial sweeteners. Fake sugar is still bad for you.

-Focus on the biggest sources first. Do you have a habit of ordering a diet coke with lunch? Or perhaps you start your day off with an extra sweet vanilla latte? Take note of what you eat and Cut. It. out.

-Be patient. It’s amazing how one day you’ll just stop craving sugar, and the thought of cookies won’t even interest you anymore. But until then, hang in there. The cravings WILL be intense.

Are you noticing your joints ‘popping’ when you sit or stand? It’s time for some stretching.

1. Standing Hip Circles: Stand with your feet hip-width apart, then raise your right knee to your chest. Circle your knee out to the right, then bring it back to the center. Keep circling for 30 seconds, then repeat with the left knee.

2. Deep Squat Reach: Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hands clasped in front of your chest. With your back flat, squat deeply so your bottom sinks lower than your knees. Reach up with your right hand, following the movement with your head. Bring your hand back to your chest and repeat with your left hand. Return to the start position. Repeat the sequence—squat, reach right, reach left, stand—for 30 seconds.

3. Rotate and Reach: Start on your hands and knees. Lower your left elbow to the floor; twist to the left and extend your right arm back between your left elbow and left knee. Pause, then untwist to the right to bring your right hand up toward the ceiling, looking at that hand. Return to start. Repeat for 30 seconds, then switch sides.

You’ve probably seen those pictures of Japanese snow monkeys soaking themselves in the hot springs through the cold winters. They do this, not just because it’s cold out, but because it helps them de-stress!

Take a note from the monkeys and draw yourself a hot bath. It’ll help lower stress hormones and provide relief to aches and pains. The best time for a bath is right before bed.
