Why does mud kitchen play matter? 🤎

To children, they may simply be mixing, scooping, pouring and making mud pies… but there’s so much learning happening beneath the mess! ✨

Mud kitchen play gives children the freedom to explore natural materials, invent recipes, experiment with quantities and follow their own ideas through hands-on, play-based learning. 🌱💭

As children stir, measure, pour and create, they’re naturally developing:
👐 Fine motor skills
🔢 Early math concepts
🔎 Early science and problem-solving
💬 Language and communication
❤️ Social-emotional skills
🌱 Confidence and independence

Looking for a fun, engaging summer activity? Turn a simple neighborhood stroll into a big summer adventure! 🌿☀️

Next time you head outside, try a Nature Color Hunt:

Hand your little one an empty egg carton or paper bag.

Draw 4–6 color dots inside (red, green, brown, yellow).

Challenge them to find a natural item (leaves, petals, twigs) to match each color!

It builds observation skills, color recognition, and motor skills—all while burning off that extra summer energy! 🍃

🎨 DIY Summer Fun: Sidewalk Chalk Paint!

☀️ Looking for a quick, budget-friendly way to spice up outdoor playtime next week? Skip the store-bought chalk and make your own Sidewalk Chalk Paint using items you already have in your kitchen!

It mixes up in seconds, goes on like vibrant paint, and dries into beautiful chalk art.

🥣 What You Need:
Equal parts cornstarch and water (e.g., 1 cup of each)

Food coloring or washable liquid watercolors

Muffin tin, paintbrushes, or foam rollers

👩‍🎨 How to Do It:
Whisk the cornstarch and water together until smooth.

Pour the mixture into the cups of a muffin tin.

Add a few drops of different food coloring to each cup and stir!

✨ The Preschool Benefit: Painting on the ground is a fantastic way for young children to practice big-muscle movements. Holding the paintbrushes builds the grip strength they will need for writing later on, and mixing the colors together is a perfect, hands-on science experiment!
