Let’s go way back to Stephen Covey 😂: “Begin with the end in mind.”

But for reals. This applies so beautifully to the way I teach yoga.

Start with your final goal:
✨ A peak pose?
🔥 A grand finale flow?
💨 A moment of challenging, fiery breath?

Then…work your way into it.

Introduce shapes or transitions in a scaled-down version way back at the beginning of class. Think about which muscles need to be lengthened, strengthened, or activated. Then keep incorporating those movements as the class builds.

By the time your students reach that final moment, their brains and bodies are already prepared—and they probably didn’t even realize it was happening.

That’s intentional sequencing. And your students can feel the difference. 💗

This is one of my very favorite sequencing tools to suggest to teachers once they have just a little teaching experience under their belts.

It’s a great way to get creative without making your flow too complicated.

And it really doesn’t have to be complicated! Try Warrior One facing the front of the mat, followed by Warrior Two facing the back—and build from there.

Turning your students around keeps them on their toes and creates a little bit of mystery as they move through the flow.
Bonus: it also helps you keep track of which side your students are working—right or left—based on which direction they’re facing.

I use this little sequencing trick in nearly every class I teach.
