We stay busy at South Baldwin Literacy Council!

Our Youth Department trained over 20 volunteers yesterday during our after-school youth training at the new Foley Community Library. We now have more than 40 volunteers in our Youth Department serving both Foley and Fairhope.

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that our SBLC staff truly care about our volunteers and making sure they have the training and support they need to be successful tutors.

We couldn’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers. We appreciate you! ❤️

Fall Tutoring Assessments Have Begun!

Our Youth Department has officially started fall student assessments at both our Foley and Fairhope locations, and the results are already showing us just how important literacy support is in our community.

91% of Fairhope students assessed are below the reading benchmark.
93% of Foley students assessed are below the reading benchmark.

These numbers show a clear need for targeted reading support and individualized tutoring. Our Youth Department is working hard to make sure these students receive the support they need, alongside our incredible volunteers who give their time to help students build stronger reading skills and confidence.

We are so grateful for the hard work and dedication of our Youth Department and the amazing volunteers who make this program possible. Together, we’re helping students become stronger readers and stronger learners!

What an incredible Back 2 School Community Kickoff at Beulah Heights Park!

Thank you, Alicia Watts, for putting together such an amazing event for the community and for inviting South Baldwin Literacy Council to be a part of it!

We gave out tons of books, shared ways parents can help their children succeed at home and in school, and even signed up some new after-school youth students!

We're excited to offer another 6-week Beginner Mahjong Class starting September 8th! This class is limited to just 16 participants, and spots always fill up fast.
