Congratulations to Liliana and Laila from Strath Haven High School for an outstanding achievement at the Health Occupations Students of America - HOSA International Leadership Conference in Indianapolis last week!

Competing against some of the best students from across the country, Liliana and Laila earned an impressive 5th-place finish in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) competition. Their dedication, knowledge, teamwork, and commitment to healthcare excellence were on full display throughout the event.

This remarkable accomplishment reflects countless hours of preparation and a passion for serving others through emergency medicine. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and the way they represented our school, community, and future healthcare professionals!

Another successful training day in the books!

Today, students completed “Emergency Management as a System”, a course through Blue Sky Strategic Partners LLC.

Students strengthened their understanding of:

• The National Incident Management System (NIMS) and its importance

• The National Response Framework

• The full Emergency Management Cycle (Preparedness → Response → Mitigation → Recovery)

• Real-world application through interactive scenarios

The students engaged in thoughtful discussion, explored how emergency management works across different levels (hospital, municipal, county, state & federal), and left with a clearer picture of what it takes to be an effective emergency manager.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated — your commitment to professional development and community preparedness makes a real difference!

On Wednesday, we proudly hosted our newly revamped Emergency and Protective Services Family Day Event!

This exciting event gave students the opportunity to showcase the knowledge, skills, and abilities they’ve developed throughout this school year and beyond. Families were able to experience hands-on activities alongside our students while seeing firsthand the training and dedication that goes into preparing the next generation of first responders.

From interactive skill stations to realistic emergency scenarios, students demonstrated the professionalism, teamwork, and quick decision-making required in the world of emergency services. These lifelike scenarios highlighted the important work first responders perform every single day to keep our communities safe.

A special thank you goes out to the emergency services agencies and departments that helped make this event possible. Their continued support of our program provides students with invaluable mentorship, guidance, and real-world experience. We are proud that many of our current students already serve as active members within local emergency service organizations, while many of our alumni have gone on to build successful careers with these same departments and agencies.

Yesterday was a big milestone for our Firefighting class

Students wrapped up the Exterior Firefighter Module by putting their skills to the test during live fire car fire evolutions. This hands-on training gave them the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in a realistic, high-heat environment—building confidence, teamwork, and critical decision-making skills.

Great work by all involved as they continue progressing toward becoming the next generation of fire service professionals!
