Central Elementary, Flushing Community Schools Preparing Learners Today for Opportunities Tomorrow Central Elementary is one of four 1st-6th grade elementary buildings in Flushing Community Schools.

Built in 1953, it is the oldest of the elementary buildings. Over the years, a gymnasium and media center were added bringing the total square footage to 55,460. Central is situated within the city and sits on 25 acres of land. The district's football stadium is located on the back portion of the property.

We sincerely apologize for the delay in today’s dismissal line. The wait time was not acceptable. Pick-up times naturally decrease as staff and students learn the routines and procedures but we are also looking at adjustments to make the process move more efficiently. Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and understanding at this time.

Looking to support the Central community for a few hours a day? We’d love to have you on our team!

We currently have two open roles:

Cafeteria Supervisor for Breakfast and Lunch: 4 hours/day (covers cafeteria supervision at breakfast and lunch, and office coverage for Mrs. Brossart during her lunch)

Recess Monitor: 2 hours/day

This is a quick reminder to please take a moment to review the updated arrival and dismissal procedures in your child's welcome-back to school letter.

Inside the welcome information that you received at the Open House from your child’s teacher—or coming home with your child on Monday morning if you were unable to attend, you will find two orange car signs for parent pick-up. Please display one of these signs clearly on your dashboard so we can quickly call your child and have them ready as you enter the pick-up zone. If you need extra signs for other family members, or if one gets lost or damaged, just contact the main office and we will gladly make more for you.

Thank you so much for your patience and flexibility during these first few days. As always, arrival and dismissal take a little extra time during the first week while everyone gets used to the new routines, but things will speed up quickly as we fall into a rhythm!

I hope you're all enjoying a fun and relaxing summer! It’s hard to believe, but the first day of school is just around the corner. As we gear up for another great year, here are a few important dates and details to keep in mind:

🏫 Open House (All Grades): Wednesday, August 19 from 6:00–7:00 PM
✉️ Classroom Placement Letters: Mailed out on Thursday, August 13

Another successful 6th Grade Camp is in the books!

From rock climbing and zip lining to archery, ropes courses, and so much more, our students had an incredible time challenging themselves, building friendships, and creating unforgettable memories.

A special thank you to Covenant Hills for once again being such wonderful hosts, and to our dedicated staff for all of the planning, organization, and support that made this event possible. What a great way to celebrate our amazing 6th graders! We will miss you and good luck in 7th grade!
