Planning your visit to the award-winning Floyd Living Traditions Festival? We've got several free parking options available to help make your day easy and enjoyable!

Free festival parking is available at:
• Floyd County High School (with complimentary shuttle service to and from the festival)
• Floyd Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram
• Thomas & Wall Real Estate lot (across from the dealership)
• June Bug Center

Accessible parking is available on the Floyd Center for the Arts campus.

Just follow the festival parking signs throughout town and our parking attendants will help direct you to available parking areas.

🧩 Art 4 All: Scrapbook Paper Quilts
Created by Art 4 All participants in partnership with Circle of Friends, these colorful paper quilts celebrate creativity, connection, and Appalachian quilting traditions.

🧶 Strings Attached: The Enduring Appeal of Overshot Coverlets
Presented by Old Church Gallery, featuring historic coverlets and treasured textiles celebrating the tradition of overshot weaving.

🎨 Landmarks: The Rock Churches and the White Churches of the Blue Ridge
Watercolors by Donald Sunshine celebrating the historic churches of the Blue Ridge. Meet the artist and learn more about the inspiration behind the exhibition during Donald Sunshine's Artist Talk at 1:30 PM in the Falcon Gallery.

🖌️ 5th Floyd Plein Air Biennial Preview Exhibition
Get a first look at work by artists participating in the Biennial, returning September 14–19 with 30 artists from 10 states.

All exhibitions are free to explore during the festival!

From Clay to Creation

Step inside the Pottery Studio during the Floyd Living Traditions Festival and watch clay take shape right before your eyes!

Throughout the day, visitors can watch ceramic artists at work on the pottery wheel and learn more about the tools, techniques, and process of transforming clay into functional and decorative pottery. Stop in, ask questions, and get an up-close look at one of the world's oldest craft traditions.

From Dye Garden to Loom

Presented by the FCA Fiber Team, one of the most hands-on areas of the Floyd Living Traditions Festival is the Fiber Arts Area, where visitors can explore the journey from plant to fiber to finished textile and discover traditions that have been practiced for generations.

🌿 Natural Dye Garden
Learn about dye plants grown with support from the NRV Master Gardeners and discover how natural materials have been used to create color for textiles throughout history.

💙 Indigo Dyeing
Watch the magic of indigo and create a dyed bandana or streamer while learning about one of the world's oldest dye traditions.

🌾 Flax
See how flax is processed and transformed into fiber, offering a glimpse into the early stages of cloth production.

🧶 Weaving
Watch skilled weavers transform yarn into fabric using techniques that have been passed down through generations.

🧵 Needlework: Tatting & Knitting
Discover the delicate art of tatting and the enduring tradition of knitting as fiber artists demonstrate these time-honored techniques.

From garden to garment, these demonstrations showcase the creativity, knowledge, and craftsmanship at the heart of Appalachian fiber traditions.

🎶 Kick Off Festival Weekend at the Friday Night Jamboree!

The 4th annual Floyd Living Traditions Festival begins before the festival grounds even open!

Join us Friday, August 21, at The Floyd Country Store for a special Friday Night Jamboree and an unforgettable start to festival weekend. For generations, the Friday Night Jamboree has brought together musicians, dancers, neighbors, and visitors from around the world to celebrate the music and traditions of Appalachia.

🧹 Traditional Appalachian Broom Making
Discover the art of traditional broom making using hand-bound, non-electric techniques and natural materials. Learn how these beautiful and functional tools have been crafted for generations and explore the history and traditions behind this enduring Appalachian craft.

These demonstrations offer a chance to meet makers, ask questions, and experience the skills and traditions that continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

🔥 Experience the Art of Blacksmithing!

Step onto the Living Traditions Demonstration Trail and experience one of humanity's oldest and most enduring crafts as members of the Old Dominion Blacksmithing Association bring the forge to life at the 4th annual Floyd Living Traditions Festival.

Throughout the day, blacksmiths will demonstrate traditional and historic forging techniques, showcasing the skill, craftsmanship, and ingenuity that have shaped communities for centuries. Watch sparks fly, hear the ring of hammer on anvil, and learn more about the history and craft of blacksmithing.

This year, festival visitors will also have the opportunity to see a special 17th-century-style coal forge and bellows in action, operated by a blacksmith dressed in period clothing. It's a unique chance to experience a piece of living history and see how blacksmiths worked generations ago.

Be sure to stop by the Old Dominion Blacksmith Association tent to meet the demonstrators, ask questions, and browse a selection of handmade forged items available for purchase.
