Nothing humbles you like sitting in the ER with someone you love.
As a nurse, I got really frustrated and burned out with healthcare's focus on symptom management while no focus was given on preventing disease or partnering with patients to change lifestyles.
The charting never ended. Resources to truly walk with people through their challenges? Nonexistent. I'd watch the same patients come back sicker, more defeated, and it broke something in me.
Then it became personal. My wife was in debilitating gut pain—no answers from specialist after specialist. Anxiety piled on top.
One morning, she had chest pain that lead us to the ER. It was a panic attack--not her heart, but the fear was real. We sat in that helplessness, knowing the system could react in crisis but couldn't prevent the spiral or address the root cause.
While working on my Holistic Nursing certification, I started helping her apply what I was learning—lifestyle shifts, stress support, whole-person approaches. And she actually started improving. For the first time, we saw real change.
That was my turning point. I realized people don't have to keep getting sicker. I couldn't stay in a system that blocked the kind of care that actually helped my wife—so I asked: How can an RN do this independently?
That's how I became a nurse coach. Now I have renewed confidence that decline isn't inevitable.
I'm finally fulfilling my purpose as a nurse: partnering one-on-one, focusing on prevention, lifestyle, and empowerment.
I get to witness clients feel better, regain energy, and break cycles—and it lights me up every time.
