Great read about the beginnings of LearningAlly!

It all started in a basement...

In 1948, a group of volunteers gathered in the basement of the New York City Public Library with a shared belief and a simple mission: that education is a right, not a privilege. Those were the words of our founder, Anne T. Macdonald, and they have guided Learning Ally ever since.

What began as a volunteer-driven effort to create recorded books for visually impaired WWII veterans has grown into a national leader in literacy and educational equity, serving hundreds of thousands of students with dyslexia and reading differences across the country.

The basement of a New York City library. A handful of people who believed access to education should never be limited by a person's ability to read. That is where this started, and that spirit is alive in every volunteer who dedicates their time and talent to us today.

Get the kids outside y’all!

Does it ever feel like your child settles a little after time outside? You might be onto something. Research shows that even 20 minutes in green spaces—like parks or tree-lined areas—can help improve attention and reduce ADHD symptoms.

🌿 It’s not a cure. But it is accessible, low-cost, and something many kids naturally enjoy.

Research is suggesting that time in nature can help ease “attentional fatigue”—that worn-out feeling that makes it hard to focus. Sometimes, support looks like stepping outside.
