“I’ll do it later.” Sound familiar? 👀
The homework is waiting, but your child suddenly needs a snack, a phone break, or anything that delays getting started.
Procrastination isn’t always about managing time. Sometimes, the assignment feels confusing, overwhelming, boring, or difficult—and putting it off brings temporary relief.
Instead of “Why haven’t you started?” try:
💬 “What feels hard about getting started?”
Then help your child take these four steps:
🔎 Notice it: Recognize when they’re avoiding the task.
💬 Name it: Identify what feels hard.
🧩 Shrink it: Choose one tiny step—open the document, get out the notes, or read the first question.
⏱️ Start it: Try five minutes, then check in.
Your child doesn’t have to feel motivated to take one small step. With practice and support, starting can become easier.
At homeworkinacafe.com, we combine academic support with executive function skills to help students build stronger study habits and greater independence.
