Hello Classmates
This is a reminder (for the letter I sent out in January) regarding a reunion picnic. In case it is lost or maybe you don't remember receiving it, here is what is going on.
Tom and Elsie Goeke have offered to host a picnic at their place on Saturday, July 19 at 4:00. They own Hermans Farm Orchard in St Charles and they have a huge covered, ventilated pavilion (56 x 48) that would be perfect for a gathering. The menu would include fried chicken from Hawthorne IGA, corn on the cob, tomatoes and blackberries (all from their farm). If anyone would like to volunteer, we need a few items to round out the menu. Some suggestions are: Appetizers/snacks, Salads: like slaw, lettuce, potato, pasta or your favorite, Desserts: Your favorite or maybe something to go with sugared blackberries (angel food cake, pound cake etc). Please be sure to bring a serving utensil if needed for your dish. We are also asking everyone to furnish their own drinks. Tom said he has two large coolers that people are welcome to use for keeping their refreshments cold.
Don't forget, the date is Saturday, July 19 at 4:00. We chose 4:00 because they have a produce stand and we don't want to take away from the customers. After dinner, Tom has offered a hay ride if anyone is interested, or we can just sit around and visit, listening or dancing to the oldies. We hope to eat around 5:30 or so. We are looking for 8 -10 volunteers who would like to start the party early. They would help us slice tomatoes, prepare corn on the cob for grilling, sugar blackberries and other miscellaneous tasks. If you can come around 1:00, please let me know. If you are busy later in the evening and cannot make the picnic, this would be an opportunity to get together and do some visiting.
We are trying to keep the cost reasonable and came up with the figure of $5.00 per person. This would cover the cost of the chicken, paper products, miscellaneous food, johnny on the spot etc. Checks can be made out and mailed to me - Mary (Byrne) Beard, 6607 Lynbrook Dr, St Louis Mo 63123. I do need to know if you are interested and if it is for one or two people in your party so we can start making final plans. If you are not planning to attend, please let me know. Two reasons, one, I know you received my email and second, I won't bother you with any further updates.
I will send out another reminder letter in June and try to give an update on who will be attending. Please tell all your Aquinas friends about the picnic in case they did not get this email. I don't have everyone's email address and I am trying to reach those by phone. It would help if you could mention it to them for me and then let me know.
If you would like to see where the picnic is being held, go to Tom's web site below. Be sure to click on Timeline and then on "photos" and you will see why Tom and Elsie are so proud of their accomplishment.
The web site is
http://hermanfarm.com/
Address is 3663 N. Hwy 94, St Charles, Mo 63301 Phone 636 925 9969.
Parking will be on the side of his property, Boscherttown Road so look for the "Aquinas Parking" signs.
We are hoping you can join us and we will be anxious to hear from you. Because of the enclosed pavilion and ventilation, the picnic will be held even if we have rain or extreme heat
Thank you,
