Eating Raw Mushrooms:
It is almost always advisable to cook your mushrooms before eating. While some species are toxic in their raw form, the more common reason for most cultivated mushrooms is that their cell walls are made of chitin.
Raw chitin can be difficult to digest, and is much more likely to cause gastrointestinal distress and discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.
This can easily be confused with mushroom poisoning, but it's actually more akin to eating a bunch of crab shells and then wondering why your stomach doesn't like you.
Remember, just because cooking *some* toxic wild mushrooms renders them edible, there are plenty of species that remain toxic no matter how much you cook them.
