What are some examples of exercise and fitness activities you do together as a family? 🎬 Ask your children how they feel about P.E. class. While most children enjoy physical education classes, some children feel awkward 😬. They may be embarrassed about their lack of athletic ability or self-conscious about their weight and changing bodies. Fear of P.E. can keep children from enjoying school and embracing a healthy lifestyle. Talk to the P.E. teacher or guidance counselor if your child is anxious about P.E. class.

🙌 Keep promoting fitness in and out of school. You’re helping your children create a healthy lifestyle!

In which core subject does your youngest child excel the most? 🎬 Ask your school counselor about “Honors” and “Advanced Placement” classes. High school students who have planned their schedules carefully may be eligible to take college-level classes offered in high school in different subject areas, such as 🌐 foreign languages, 🧮 math, and 🔬 science at no extra cost. They may even be able to earn certificates and college degrees 🎓 before graduating from high school.

🙌 Keep encouraging your children to get good grades and to take rigorous courses. You’re helping them meet their highest potential!

Take 3 minutes to think about your children’s development since birth. Have you ever suspected that they have difficulty learning? Why or why not?
🎬 Let a professional know if you suspect your child has a learning problem. Parents, teachers, or other school professionals can request an evaluation. Your child will likely first have tests to rule out 👁️ vision or 🦻 hearing problems or other medical conditions. ℹ️ Visit https://www.understood.org to learn more about the challenges of learning and thinking differently and what helps children thrive.

🙌 Keep monitoring your children’s progress. You are ensuring that their needs are being met!

Who should you talk to if you are worried about your children’s ability to learn the English language? What is the best way to contact that person or support team?

🎬 Request your child’s “English Language Learner (ELL)” test scores. As a parent, it is your right ⚖️ and responsibility to advocate for the ELL services that are most beneficial to your child. Schedule a meeting with the ELL team to review your child’s test scores and discuss strengths and areas to improve.

🙌 Keep tracking yearly ELL test scores. You’re helping your children achieve English proficiency!
