Please come and visit our annual Día de los Mu***os/Day of the Dead altar contest and exhibit. Be sure you read the descriptions as they bring each altar to life, and then vote for your favorite that you believe exhibits the most creativity and originality! You have until the end of the day October 30 to vote for your favorite altar outside the Modern Language suite in CEMC.

Mardi Gras/Carnaval is an all-day event at FMU tomorrow! Start off with Afro-Latin dance lessons at the UC at 10 am, stop by the FH/CEMC breezeway for free candy kisses and Valentines cards from 11:30-12:30, and come to our Mardi Gras party outside Lowrimore at 2:30pm for some cake and a chance to be part of our 2024 Royal Court. Round out your day with the movie “Encanto” at 3:35 or 6:30, with free sandwiches in between!

Our students celebrated el Día de los Mu***os with a variety of activities this year, including a special Honors exhibit on border crossings, a beautiful altar display and contest, student cultural presentations, and a salsa dance party. “Hay que vivir sonriendo para morir contentos.”

MOLA 100 students had a great time with Dr. Bergstrom, who came back from retirement to discuss the Spanish novel Don Quixote. MOLA 100 is a our new English-language cultural competency course, open to all students. In addition to literature, students learn about the history, art, cuisine, fashion, music, scientific contributions, customs, and daily life of Spanish- and French-speaking peoples. Other scheduled speakers this semester include a former Senegalese telejournalist, a salsa dance instructor, and student athletes from Quebec and South America.

FM alumnus and Spanish major, Dr. Ashley Pahis, shared information about his graduate studies in Spanish Linguistics with Dr. Caldwell's Spanish class. Dr. Pahis received his Ph.D. from Penn State in May 2022. Congratulations, Dr. Pahis!
