🌱🐺 Hello, Wolf Pack Families! 🐺🦋

I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about our Wolf Pack Garden Club and the work happening in our outdoor learning spaces!

Last year, we were incredibly grateful to receive the Champions of the Environment Grant. This grant has allowed us to expand our Garden Club program and create an outdoor learning space where our scholars can learn, explore, and get their hands dirty!

We were able to build six raised garden beds, and each bed has its own learning experience. Our garden includes an Ethnobotanical section, a Native Plant section, and an African Diaspora section. These spaces allow our scholars to explore plants, culture, history, environmental stewardship, and the many ways plants connect to our everyday lives.

🌿 This week, our Garden Club scholars will be busy!

We will be:
• Cleaning up summer growth
• Harvesting Ethnobotanical herbs used for medicinal purposes
• Preparing our beds for fall planting
• Planting carrots
• Possibly planting spinach
• Getting our overwintering wheat into the soil

We have a good amount of work to accomplish, and we have some ready-and-willing Wolf Pack scholars who are excited to get their hands dirty! 🐺🌱

🦋 Now, let's talk about our overgrown—and maybe not-so-pretty-looking—Butterfly Garden!

What may look overgrown or untidy to some is actually an intentional pollinator habitat that has been left largely untouched for the past few years. And the pollinator activity we have observed has been wonderful!

Our butterfly garden has become home to so many different types of insects and pollinators. 🐝🦋🌼 These little visitors play an incredibly important role in our ecosystem. Without pollinators, many of the fruits, vegetables, and plants we depend on would not be able to produce food.

Sometimes a healthy garden doesn't look perfectly manicured. Sometimes, the messy-looking spaces are the ones doing some of the most important work! 🌿🦋

We are so proud of the learning opportunities our garden provides for our scholars, and we are thankful for everyone who continues to support the Wolf Pack Garden Club.

🛠️ Garden supplies
🐺 And, of course, your time!

📚 High School Attendance Matters!

Students who reach 11 or more absences in a class may receive an FA—Failure for Excessive Absences.

If your student is at risk of exceeding 10 absences, Attendance Recovery may be completed before reaching 11 absences.

✅ 60 minutes = 1 recovered day
✅ Meaningful academic work required
✅ Up to 3 days may be recovered per class
✅ $30 per session
✅ Cash or card accepted at the front office

Building World-Class Skills, one grade level at a time! 🌟

Spotlight:
🍎 5K Weather Science: Exploring how sunny weather impacts our environment (Ms. Hudson)
🍎 6th Grade Cell Biology: Creating city models to understand how cells function (Mr. Helmer)

Why do these hands on projects (or any work!) matter? Because the journey of a high school graduate starts in 5K. Every class is intentionally designed to prepare our students step-by-step to meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate--ready for college, careers, and citizenship.

🎨🖼Check out the finished product from some of our Middle School Art students.

Under the direction of Ms. Kirchen, these students learned about then executed one point perspective pieces.

A month ago, many of these students did not know they had an artist inside of them. Through patience and perseverance--both teacher and students--we are learning that they can learn to do just about anything.

Be sure to check out the Art space when you come to Title 1 Family Night this Thursday from 5:30-7:30.

🐺 Title I Night is TOMORROW!

Virtus families, we are excited to welcome you to our Title I Family Night tomorrow, Thursday, September 17, from 5:30–7:30 PM!

Come explore our different stations, learn more about how Title I supports our students and families, and enjoy an evening of learning and connecting with our Wolf Pack community. 💙💛

🍽️ Grab & Go Dinner: Dinner will be available for families to take home while supplies last. To receive a dinner ticket, families will need to attend one of our Title I Annual Meeting stations during the evening. Once you attend the meeting, you’ll receive your ticket to pick up your Grab & Go dinner.

We have lots planned, and we hope you’ll come spend some time with us tomorrow night!

It is IT Professionals Day and we want to give a shout out to our IT Team.

Like most of us, they wear multiple hats but when the printer goes rogue, the internet stops working, or when we are planning for educational technology these guys are our super heros!!!
