Today, we honor Greenville, South Carolina native, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. We remember his dedication in the fight for civil rights, voting rights, and political empowerment - from the library to the lunch counter, and lands near and far.

As we reflect on his legacy, may we all continue the work of informed, engaged citizenship, and in his words, “Keep hope alive!”

Today, we honor Greenville, SC, native, Rev. Jesse Jackson. We remember his dedication in the fight for civil rights, voting rights, and political empowerment.

His activism started in 1960, with a sit-in at the then-segregated Greenville downtown library, which resulted in arrests, a lawsuit, and the integration of our libraries.

Additionally, he and the Rainbow PUSH Coalition also worked alongside the League of Women Voters to support the National Voter Registration Act in 1993.

As we reflect on his legacy, may we continue the work of informed, engaged citizenship, and in his words, “Keep hope alive!”

Who should pay for the massive energy demand of new data centers? In recent testimony on S.867, the Data Center Development Act, the League emphasized a clear principle: companies using vast amounts of electricity should cover the full cost of generating and delivering that power, not South Carolina ratepayers. With many households already under financial strain, cost-shifting is not acceptable.
