Hey APT friends! Here is an example of how the APT helps support our school and students. Throughout the year we stock Teddy’s Treat Trolley to ensure there’s plenty of fun rewards for the kids to choose from. Your support, especially during our Fundraisers helps make this and so much more happen!

💙 🐾 Meet the board 🐾 💙

Meet Michelle Killian, Fundraising Chair! She describes herself as a full-time chaos coordinator, snack distributor, chauffeur, and referee to two incredible tiny humans who prove every single day that siblings can be complete opposites. Her husband is the calm to her chaos (and still holds out hope that one day she’ll agree to actual camping… spoiler alert: we’re still glamping).

“Our kids have proudly been Scotties since Pre-K and keep us running between baseball diamonds in the spring and soccer fields in the fall. When I’m not coordinating everyone’s schedules or searching for someone’s missing cleat, you’ll usually find me with a good book, soaking up the sun by the water, or planning our next memory making adventure.”

“By day, I’m the Marketing Coordinator for Florence 1 Schools. I am honored to spend my days creating graphics and content, but my favorite part of the job is listening to the amazing stories that make our district special before bringing them to life through creative storytelling.”

If you plan to volunteer on campus this school year, please complete your Florence One Schools volunteer background check as soon as possible. Approval can take time, so don’t wait until the last minute.

Meet the Board 🐾 💙

Melissa is a proud Scottie mom, with her son Nehemiah entering 5th grade at Lester.

Melissa has worked for the past 14 years as a professional writer, first as a journalist and then in communications, sharing the stories of district, staff and student achievements in Florence 1 Schools.

When she’s not working, Melissa can be found at the soccer field or in the stands at basketball games cheering on Nehemiah, listening to podcasts, propagating plants or trying new recipes in her kitchen.

Melissa is looking forward to serving as APT Secretary this school year, helping to make this an incredible year for all of our Lester Scotties.

We’re excited to introduce Erika Cook, who is serving as Treasurer for the Lester this school year!

Erika is a proud mom of four boys, and all of them are Scotties! This year, her twin sons will be in 5th grade at Lester, her third son will be in joining us in 3rd grade, and her youngest is heading into 5k.

Professionally, Erika works part-time as an Accountant for P*e Dee Land Trust. She and her husband, Seth, also own a small you-pick farm in Darlington, where they enjoy welcoming visitors and spending time together as a family.

When she’s not working or keeping up with her busy crew, Erika loves camping, gardening, playing games with her boys, and curling up with a good book.

Erika is excited to serve as Treasurer and looks forward to supporting our school while helping make this a successful year for our Scottie families.

💙🐾 MEET THE BOARD for the 26-27 School Year 🐾💙

This week we’re excited to introduce our Lester APT Vice President, Beka Andrews!

Beka has a special connection to Lester—her mother proudly taught here for more than 30 years, making this school a place that’s always felt like home.

She is the proud mom of three boys, with her oldest currently in 5th grade at Lester and her middle child entering 3rd grade. Beka has dedicated over 10 years to teaching in Florence One and is beginning her third year at McLaurin Elementary.

Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, cheering on her boys at ballgames, and making memories with her family.

Beka also brings previous APT leadership experience as McLaurin’s and Lester’s Event Organizer. Her perspective as both an educator and a parent makes her a wonderful asset to our team, and she’s excited to help make this school year one to remember for our Scottie families.
