One to One Reading/Northern Kentucky

One to One Reading/Northern Kentucky A program of the Northern Kentucky Education Council to build a community of readers. One to One pairs community volunteers with struggling young readers.

One to One: Practicing Reading with Students trains business and community volunteers to produce measurable, positive results for first to third grade students who are struggling with reading. The volunteers, or literacy coaches, practice individually with students 35 minutes a week; in a simple format that emphasizes reading, writing, and building basic skills. As a result, volunteers are able to

make serious, meaningful connections with struggling students and can help move them toward reading proficiency, which is a critical factor in a child's academic success. In order to become a literacy coach in the One to One program, a volunteer must complete six-hours of training. Community volunteers are trained to become literacy coaches. Coaches receive comprehensive six hour training delivered by a One to One training consultant. The training is designed to provide best practice strategies and activities necessary to help a child become an engaged reader. Reading practice sessions are presented in focused 35 minute weekly coaching sessions. Coaches receive step-by-step instructions during training on how to maximize every minute of that time to help students practice the vital skill of reading. As a result, volunteers are able to make serious, meaningful connections with struggling students and can help move them toward reading proficiency, which is a critical factor in a child’s academic success. There are currently over 400 reading coaches volunteering in 39 Northern Kentucky elementary schools.

It’s Dolly’s Birthday! Dolly turns 78 today, January 19th, and this calls for celebrating!

To celebrate her birthday and our snow day:
1. Read for an extra 19 minutes together
2. Tell 19 friends about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! We’d love 19 new registrations today for little ones who qualify! Our registration link is below.
3. Share this post — we want to get at least 78 likes for Dolly!
4. Consider donating $19 or $78 to our program. https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/

Did you know? The only parts of Kenton County that are covered for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library are Ludlow and Bromley — all due to our school district committing to partner with Dolly’s Library! We wanted to bring this wonderful program to the little ones in our community. After all, Readers are made in the lap of their parent. ❤️
