Siuslaw band has been hard at work preparing for our first festival in almost 2 years!

Today we got the chance to perform for some amazing judges and work with Nathan Irby from Judson Middle school during our clinic. We had lots to learn and look forward to showing you how much we’ve improved!

Good morning Siuslaw Band!

I hope you have all had an amazing summer and are enjoying the last couple weeks before school starts.

There are a few announcements I would like to share with you all.

Next week (August 23rd - 24th & 26th - 27th) there will be an optional Band Camp from 12pm until 3:30pm. It is meant to be fun, allow high school students to return to the high school band room, and provide us with a head start for the upcoming football season.

Incoming high school students (last year's 8th graders) and current high school students have received two emails regarding the optional band camp next week. If you are a student, please make sure to check your school email to find details about the Band Camp next week. There are currently 6 people signed up for the optional band camp and it would be great if we could get more signed up to round out the group and have a well rounded sound to rehearse with.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

In other news...we got NEW drum HEADS!!!

The last couple of weeks have been spent tuning, taking apart, and reassembling new drum heads for the marching percussion and the concert snare drums. Take a look at the before and after pictures below to see the new, improved, MATCHING, drum heads!

Good evening Siuslaw Band Students and Families!

We have our third and FINAL senior recognition tonight! Just in time for graduation!

Our third graduating band senior is Ross Richmond! Ross has been holding down the low brass section since he was in the 6th grade. Ross plays tuba and euphonium and is a contributor to the musical foundation that band music always needs. Ross has participated in both Jazz Band and Symphonic Band this year and was always willing to "go with the flow" when it came to online band.

When asked what his favorite memory of band was he said "Going to State Championship in Band, and the Veteran's Day Parade that rained so bad, there was no point in wiping the water off our glasses." After high school, Ross plans on attending Wayne Community College to get his basic education done and then plans on going to a bigger college to obtain his Bachelor's in Business Science. Once he has finished college he plans on coming back to Florence to start his own business. Once he has a business up and running he plans on providing his OWN scholarships or grants for high school students here in Florence!

Thank you, Ross! We appreciate everything you have done for this band and will miss you very much! Congratulations on graduating and good luck in your future endeavors.

Please congratulate and Ross and thank him for being a part of the Siuslaw Bands!

GO VIKS!

Good evening Siuslaw Band Students and Families!

We have another Band Senior to recognize today! That Senior is Dani Hine! Dani plays Bass Clarinet and Bb Clarinet and has been in band since she was in the 6th grade. Dani has been a joy to have in class! She is intelligent, hard working, always participating regardless of the the situation, and shows deep passion and desire for music!

When asked what her favorite band memory was she said "My favorite memory is all the district competitions we entered, I also really enjoyed the extra activities like Harmony bridge and playing down in Old Town, events that give an overall fun experience!" After she graduates, Dani plans to go to Lane Community College locally and then transfer to the University of Oregon! (GO DUCKS!) She plans on Majoring in Graphic Design and to gain great experience for becoming a Game Designer.

Thank you, Dani! Congratulations on graduating and good luck in your future endeavors!

Please congratulate Dani and thank her for dedication to the Siuslaw Bands!

Good evening Band Students and Families!

This school year has been one for the history books. And just like all school years this one is quickly coming to a close.

For the next three days we will be highlighting three amazing SHS Band Seniors who will be graduating this Friday! We will be sharing their favorite band memories, what they plan to do after they have graduated, and listen as they give thanks to those who have helped them become the musicians they are today!

Our first Senior Band Recognition goes to Liz Garcia! Liz has been in the Siuslaw Bands since the 6th grade but began her music journey in the 3rd grade when learning piano from Sarah Gage-Hunt. Liz has a lot of awesome memories but says her favorite memory was "Making it to state my freshman year and having the experience to play and watch all of the other bands. Also being recommended by Mr. Rowbotham then selected to represent SHS in the Oregon Ambassadors of Music European Tour to 7 different countries my sophomore year". After high school, Liz will be attending Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon where she plans to major in Sociology or Psychology to become a Social Worker.

Music has always been a part of Liz's life and she credits much of her musicianship and musicality to Mr. Rowbotham. She wants to thank Mr. Rowbotham for being her role model, teacher, band director, and everything else he has done for her in the past 6 years. Liz says "He taught me how to play 4 different instruments since the 6th grade and always pushed me to my limits and believed in me. For that I am very honored that I had the opportunity to play for him."

Thank you, Liz! Congratulations on graduating and paving the way for future band students!

Please congratulate Liz and wish her well in her future endeavors!

GO VIKS!

Today, tomorrow, next month, next year.

The next day, we will encourage students, parents, teachers, and fans to participate in this initiative. On the OSAA Live mobile app, we have created FanCam filters for everyone to show their school pride. They will have the ability to easily post them on their personal social media accounts. OSAA staff will then select the best pictures and send them OSAA Nike gear. The app is available for download in the Apple App Store or on Google Play. Direct links to download are also available here: http://www.osaa.org/a
