Our secondary students were challenged to think about where their identity truly lies during chapel with Larry Pate from Restoration Church.
He reminded students that while we may wear many hats in life, none of those roles define who we are at our core. We may be athletes, musicians, artists, or high achievers in the classroom, but above all else, we are children of God.
Using the reminder that we can walk through rivers of difficulty without being overcome, he challenged students to consider what happens when we place our identity in things that can change or disappoint us. Sports, academics, and talents are gifts, but they are not who we are. When our identity and hope are rooted in Christ, we can face life’s challenges with confidence and faith.
He shared the example of WNBA player Reagan Beers, who understands that she is a child of God first and that basketball is a ministry through which she can serve Him.
Students were encouraged to reflect on three important questions: What am I trusting right now to make me feel valuable? What am I most afraid of losing? Am I trusting God to light my path?
We are thankful for this reminder that our identity is not found in what we do or what we achieve, but in whose we are. As we live out our theme, For God’s Glory, may we remember that every gift, talent, and opportunity is a chance to point others to Him.
We also had one of our seniors volunteer to lead the pledges today. Thank you for stepping up and setting a great example for your fellow students!
