Standardized tests like the ACT and SAT can feel overwhelming for both students and parents, especially when the results don’t reflect a teen’s true abilities. A low score is not a final verdict on college success, and it certainly doesn’t define your child’s potential. If your student is disappointed with the standardized score they received, today or in the future, the first step is understanding what happened. Is it test anxiety, challenges with pacing the time limitations, content they have yet to cover in school or unfamiliarity with the exam format which often plays a larger role than academic ability. Identifying the problems, seeking guidance, and learning new techniques can help determine when a retake is worth pursuing and how to approach future tests more strategically.

Many students see meaningful score improvements on a second or third attempt, particularly when their preparation is focused and intentional. Targeted tutoring, structured online courses, and guided practice can help students strengthen weaker areas and build confidence.
