At Wildflower Montessori, we believe learning comes alive when children can connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences, and we are so grateful for the incredible volunteers who make that possible.
A huge thank you to Miss Elizabeth from the Oregon Coast Humane Society and Dr. Janel Montes for bringing an unforgettable veterinary experience to our classroom! Our students learned about animal safety, discovered how microchips help reunite pets with their families, explored real X-rays, examined animal bones, practiced bandaging stuffed animals and even observed a live cat exam.
The hands-on experiences, thoughtful discussions and opportunities to ask questions sparked so much curiosity and excitement. By the end of the day, nearly half of our class had decided they wanted to become veterinarians!
Experiences like these are what make Montessori education so meaningful. Children learn best by doing, exploring, and connecting with passionate experts who share their knowledge and love for their work. We cannot thank Miss Elizabeth and Dr. Montes enough for taking the time to inspire and educate our students!

As another wonderful year at Wildflower Montessori School comes to a close, we've spent our final week doing what childhood is all about, making memories, celebrating friendships, and having fun together! From tie-dying the cutest bucket hats to field games and picnics our days have been filled with adventure!
Our students work so hard throughout the year developing independence, building skills, overcoming challenges, and growing into confident learners. Taking time to celebrate those accomplishments together is one of our favorite traditions.

One of our favorite traditions at Wildflower Montessori School is taking time to celebrate the special people in our children's lives. ❤️
We enjoyed another Donuts with Dad celebration, welcoming dads, grandpas, uncles, moms, siblings, and other loved ones into our classroom. These simple gatherings are about more than sharing a treat, they give children an opportunity to honor the people who support, encourage and love them every day.
Building strong connections between home and school is an important part of the Montessori community. We love creating opportunities for families to step into our classroom, share in their child's experiences and make lasting memories together.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your presence means the world to our children and we are so grateful to be part of your family's journey!

UNDERSTANDING THE FREEDOM TO CHOOSE:
In Montessori, the freedom to choose is so much more than picking a book for circle time. It’s an opportunity for a child to listen to their own interests, trust themselves, and build confidence through independence. When children are given meaningful choices, they become active participants in their learning, developing a sense of responsibility, curiosity, and joy along the way. These peaceful little moments are often where a lifelong love of learning begins .
These little moments are sprinkled throughout the day and so special to catch. 🤍

UNDERSTANDING THE MONTESSORI WORK PERIOD:
In a Montessori classroom, the uninterrupted work period gives children the freedom to follow their curiosity, work at their own pace, and truly love learning. Rooted in Maria Montessori’s idea of the “absorbent mind,” this child-led, teacher-guided approach allows students to choose meaningful work independently or in small groups. You might see 20 different activities happening at once and every child is engaged, learning, and growing in the way that sparks their interest most.
This uninterrupted time has many benefits:
* Builds concentration and focus
* Encourages independence and responsibility
* Supports self motivation
* Develops problem-solving and self-discipline
* Allows for deep engagement instead of rushed learning
*Encourages collaboration and respect for others
*Creates confidence and ownership of learning
The work period is a part of our day that makes the Montessori classroom so very special and unique.

We had a very special visitor in our classroom this week! Officer Snyder, our school resource officer, spent time with our students talking about safety, stranger danger, and the important role law enforcement plays in serving and protecting our community.
The children loved exploring his police vehicle, feeling how heavy his vest is, learning about the tools and equipment he uses for his job and getting to ask all the questions. Experiences like these help children build confidence, awareness, and trust with the community helpers around them.
In the Montessori method, we believe children learn best through real life experiences and meaningful connections with their community. Inviting community members into the classroom helps children better understand the world around them while fostering respect, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.
We even got to raffle off two bikes and helmets per class! Thank you Florence Police Department for all you do for our kids and community!
This visit helped prepare our students for a busy and exciting Rhododendron Festival weekend in our town as we talked about safety, community events, and the many helpers who work hard to keep everyone safe while celebrating
