South Florence High School Band

This one means a little more. In January we suffered a big loss. Today these young men and women showed the resilience of today's youth. It is with great pride that we announce our rating of Superior With Distinction in class 5 at the 2026 Concert performance assessment!
Thank you each and every student that played with some much emotion today. You spoke to Jonathan in a seriously powerful way.

What a whirlwind day for these students of the South Florence Wind Symphony period yesterday. The program hosted its annual pre-cpa day. We had Rick Langdale and Charles Fletcher come down and pour into the students of South Florence and Southside. The high school students had the extreme honor and privilege of getting to meet with the composer Frank Ticheli. They are performing one of his works this year, An American Elegy; a piece that took on a very personal and powerful meaning to each and every member of the program after the passing of their bandmate Jonathan Charles. Mr Ticheli shared what made the piece so special to him and gave the students some extremely profound mentorship and guidance and how to be valuable members of society. It was a day that these students will not ever forget!

A wonderful day on the south side of Florence. We are proud to celebrate both South Florence and Southside Middle School receiving straight Superior ratings at the 2026 SCBDA jazz performance assessment at Charleston Southern University.

This accomplishment comes for each program after only being in existence for one year prior to this! If you see one of these talented young men or women please give them a heartfelt congratulations!

We would like to send a huge kudos to the large amount of band students that are on this list of students that had some exceptional achievements on their EOC tests!

We are excited to announce that the Marching Bruins placed 2nd at this past weekend's Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade!!!
Top 3 were:

2nd - South Florence
3rd - West Florence

Thank you to McLaurin Elementary for having our Drumline out to play for their Thanksgiving day parade. It's always great to get to be part of the greater South Florence community.
