Student Success Spotlight – Ebony

My name is Ebony, and I am a proud mother of three and a two-time recent graduate of Revived Medical Training Academy. I became a Certified Phlebotomy Technician in December 2024 and a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant in July 2025.

From the age of ten, I knew I wanted a career in the medical field. I didn’t yet know exactly what role I would play, but the idea of helping people when they were sick deeply inspired me. Over the years, I faced many obstacles that at times made my dreams feel unreachable. There were moments when I truly believed that healthcare simply wasn’t meant for me.

In 2014, I began pursuing Medical Assistant training while working full time and raising a three-year-old and a newborn. Despite the challenges, I completed two semesters on the Dean’s List before the weight of balancing everything became overwhelming, and I made the difficult decision to pause my education. In 2015, I re-enrolled in Medical Assistant courses at my local community college, hopeful once again—until I learned I was expecting another child. Faced with familiar challenges, I placed my education on hold yet again and chose to complete a Certified Nursing Assistant program instead.

After graduating, I worked as a CNA for four years until I suffered a shoulder fracture during a patient lift. At that moment, I felt defeated. I believed that healthcare was no longer an option for me. For the next four years, I worked various jobs—from warehouses and work-from-home positions to call centers and gas stations—trying to find my place.

While working at a gas station, a coworker told me about Revived Medical Training Academy. I was hesitant at first, carrying the weight of past disappointments, but I decided to take a leap of faith and enroll in the Phlebotomy program. That decision changed everything. During the course, a spark was reignited, and I rediscovered my love for healthcare.

As graduation approached, I knew my journey wasn’t finished. When I learned that Revived also offered a Medical Assistant program, I re-enrolled just one week after graduating—transitioning from my December Phlebotomy completion straight into the January CCMA program. There were moments when I wanted to quit, but I refused to let quitting be part of my story again.

With the unwavering support and encouragement of the Revived staff—often arriving exactly when I needed it most—I pushed forward. Ten years after first starting this journey, I finally reached the goal I once thought was out of reach. I graduated second in my class, successfully completed my clinical rotation, and now work at a top-rated urgent care facility.

I cannot express enough gratitude to Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Murray, and Mrs. Gilbert. They helped me rediscover my passion, believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself, and stood beside me as I accomplished one of the greatest achievements of my life.

I did it.
