Today our 6th graders became Ancient Mesopotamian detectives! They used inquiry, geography, Mesopotamia facts, and problem solving to crack a compelling 6-part mystery. Once they solved the case, they celebrated their success by writing their names in cuneiform and signing our classroom wall. A fun way to bring history, investigation, and learning together!

Imagine running into a burning building to help put out a fire… only to steal something while you’re there. What should the punishment be? That was the kind of question students explored during Hammurabi Law Day!

Ms. Maurits and Mr. Pearcy went all out as students learned about Hammurabi’s Code and worked cooperatively to investigate groups of laws related to false accusations, stealing, and farming. Students evaluated whether they felt the laws were fair or unfair and defended their thinking with evidence. There was lots of thoughtful discussion, debate, and historical thinking! Mr. Pearcy and Mrs. Maurits got in on the fun with specially designed shirts!
