👋 Weekly Speech & Language Activity: Practice Greetings! 👋

This week’s activity encourages children to practice one of the most important social communication skills—greeting others! Through simple, fun play, you can help your child build confidence using “hi” and “bye” in everyday situations.

💙 Try these activities:
🏠 Look through the window of a toy house or toy car and say “Hi!” when you make eye contact.
🚪 Encourage your child to say “hi” when entering a room.
👋 Practice saying “bye” to toys before putting them away.

These activities help develop:

✨ Eye contact
✨ Functional language
✨ Early conversation skills

High-tech AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices give children a voice, increase independence, strengthen social connections, and support success at home, at school, and in the community.

At Communi-Pro, LLC, we’re passionate about helping every child find the communication system that works best for them. We’ve helped nearly 50 families obtain or update high-tech AAC devices using a variety of AAC apps, and our support doesn’t stop there. We provide AAC evaluations, device funding assistance, personalized programming, caregiver training, and ongoing coaching to help families and communication partners feel confident using the device every day.

🎉 Weekly Activity: Simon Says! 🏃‍♀️👏

Learning happens through play! This week, try a fun game of Simon Says to build your child’s listening, vocabulary, and language skills.

🗣️ Use action words (verbs) like:
✨ Jump
✨ Run
✨ Sit
✨ Clap
✨ Wave
✨ Hop
✨ Kick
✨ Lay down

💡 Language Tip: As you play, model the action and encourage your child to name the action (e.g., “I’m jumping!” or “You’re clapping!”). This helps strengthen vocabulary and understanding of verbs.

🌟 Make it easier: Use one-step directions (e.g., “Simon says clap.”)
🌟 Make it harder: Try two-step directions (e.g., “Simon says jump, then sit down.”)

Remember to keep it fun, celebrate every attempt, and enjoy learning together! ❤️

⏳ Language Strategy: Wait Time

Did you know that one of the most powerful language strategies doesn’t require any special toys or materials? It’s simply… waiting.

After asking a question, offering a choice, or making a comment, pause for 5–10 seconds before saying anything else. Many children, especially those with language delays, autism, or those who use AAC, need extra time to process what they heard, think about their response, and communicate.

✨ Why wait time matters:
• Gives your child time to process language.
• Reduces pressure to respond immediately.
• Encourages independent communication.
• Increases opportunities for spoken words, gestures, signs, or AAC use.
• Helps build confidence by showing your child that their communication is valued.

💬 Instead of this:
“Do you want bubbles? …Bubbles? Say bubbles! Do you want bubbles?”

✅ Try this:
“Do you want bubbles or a ball?” (Wait quietly for 5–10 seconds.) Smile, maintain eye contact, and give your child time to respond in any way—words, pointing, gestures, signs, or their AAC device.

💡 Remember: Silence is not wasted time—it’s processing time. Children often communicate more when adults give them the space to do so.
