Our students explored the microscopic world and observed the fascinating structures of plant and animal cells! Where our students are not just learning about cells—they’re observing them in action!

Onion Epidermal Cells: Stained with iodine, giving the cells their yellow color.

Cheek Cells: Animal stratified squamous epithelium (non-keratinized) stained with methylene blue.

Hydrilla: An invasive plant species where students could observe chloroplasts and cell walls.

Three students in Florence 1 Schools have been identified as Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program, an annual academic competition for US high school students. They are Aaron Cheng, Isabel Quann and Kashish Solanki, all of Wilson High School.

The National Merit Scholarship Program awards high-achieving high school seniors with funds for their undergraduate studies. The three Florence 1 students are among approximately 16,000 Semifinalists who now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for nearly 6,700 scholarships worth more than $24 million that will be offered next spring.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

The Mental Health Club was excited to welcome Leola Reaves from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) as a guest speaker!

Ms. Reaves shared valuable information with our students about mental health, awareness, and the importance of taking care of our mental well-being. Her message provided students with an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and have meaningful conversations about mental health.

We appreciate Ms. Reaves for taking the time to pour into our students and help us continue to break the stigma and build a culture of support and understanding. 💚

Learning Through Experience!

Students in Sports Medicine 2 recently learned about concussion evaluations and got a hands-on opportunity to experience what it can feel like to complete an evaluation while experiencing concussion-like symptoms.

Through this interactive activity, students gained a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with concussion symptoms while developing skills they can apply in real-world sports medicine settings.
