In preparation for the Module 1 English Test, students in Ms. Miller’s 8th-grade ELA class put their skills to the test in The Rice Krispy Games—a Hunger Games-inspired academic competition!

Students battled through a series of challenges designed to review key Module 1 skills, including analyzing claims and supporting evidence, distinguishing between active and passive voice, identifying rhetorical appeals, and comparing arguments. Teams worked together, applied their knowledge, and competed to prove they had what it takes to survive the arena!

Huge congratulations to the Williams Middle School football team on an incredible victory against Darlington Middle School! Securing a dominant 22-0 shutout win is a massive achievement.

We want to highly commend the boys and the coaching staff for remaining levelheaded, focused, and determined from kickoff to the final whistle. Tonight, you truly exemplified what it meant to be a tiger.

Students in Mrs. Goodman’s 6th-grade math class used two-color counters to explore adding and subtracting integers through a hands-on activity.
Yellow counters represented positive integers, while red counters represented negative integers. By physically pairing positive and negative counters, students could visualize "zero pairs" (where a positive and negative cancel each other out to equal zero) and see how the remaining counters determine the final answer.
Using concrete visual models helps students build a foundational understanding of abstract integer rules before transitioning to numerical algorithms.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, students in Ms. Brandenburg’s MYP Social Studies classes embarked on an immersive, multi-layered investigation into historiography—the study of how historical memory evolves over time.

Beginning with foundational discussions on collective memory, students traced how our understanding of 9/11 has been reshaped by subsequent global events, including the 2008 election of President Obama, the capture of Osama bin Laden in 2011, and the shared anxieties of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking their analysis a step further, students examined an extraordinary archaeological discovery: an 18th-century Revolutionary War-era gunboat unearthed during the Ground Zero excavations. This led into a study of urban land reclamation, where students learned that present-day locations like Battery Park City were once part of the Hudson River. To wrap up the project, students tackled high-level reflection questions evaluating how human activity continuously reshapes physical environments and historical landscapes.

Tomorrow is Game Day!!!

Let's hit the road and show up loud for our Williams Middle School football team as they travel to take on Darlington Middle School! We need our whole community in the stands to bring that Tiger energy and support our student-athletes.

Important Game Day Reminders
To ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone, please keep the following rules in mind before heading to the gates:

Clear Bag Policy: A strict clear bag policy will be enforced at the stadium. Please plan accordingly!

Student Supervision: All students must be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the game. Students without an adult present will not be permitted to stay.

To continue working in their topic on Describing and Classifying Matter, students in Dr. Spencer's MYP 7th Grade Science Classes were given different types of matter to investigate. They used observations and simple tools to identify physical properties and recognize chemical properties. Based on their data, students had to identify the different types of matter they were given. Mystery Solved!
