Today was a day worth celebrating at McLaurin Elementary! 🎉💚

We are incredibly proud to be recognized as one of Mississippi Department of Education’s Emerging Science of Reading Schools! 📖✨ This incredible accomplishment reflects the dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families who continue to work together to build strong readers and lifelong learners. We kicked off the celebration with an EPIC pep rally!

Here’s to celebrating how far we’ve come—and all the incredible things still ahead! McLaurin Elementary is making a difference, one reader at a time! 🤩

We are cheering extra loud for literacy this week because it’s a BIG week at McLaurin! 🎉✨ We have a big award coming tomorrow and we can’t wait to share the exciting news. 🤩

Ms. Chance’s 3rd grade class is diving into “Stink and the Freaky Frog Freakout” using CSPACE! Students are analyzing, color-coding, and breaking down the story to better understand the text and strengthen their reading skills. 🌟📖

🔤🐊 A is for Alligator… and ADORABLE Pre-K! 💚

Our Pre-K friends are learning all about the letter A this week! One little learner proudly told us, “Alligator starts with A!"

And these faces? They show ALL the emotions of Pre-K life! 😂They were having so much fun learning that we couldn’t get everyone to look at the camera—but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Learning, laughing, and making memories—that’s the Pre-K way!

Yes!!! We are so excited!!!
There are more than 700 elementary schools in Mississippi. And McLaurin El is one of only 15 chosen as an Emerging Science of Reading School! We are so very proud of our students and staff for putting in the hard work, and we are thankful for MDE for the recognition. Can’t wait to celebrate this honor as a school family with MDE! ✨

MDE has designated 15 elementary schools as Mississippi Emerging Science of Reading (SOR) Schools and one school as a Mississippi Science of Reading School for the 2026-27 school year. ⭐️
