Recently, the FHS Ag Ed students were responsible for removing a dilapidated chain link fence, planning for construction of a new wood fence and constructing that fence. Skills learned/utilized are team communication, real-world math application, patience, framing/structural assembly, using string lines for straight runs, mixing concrete correctly, using the 3-4-5 square method among many others. More updates on this project coming soon!

Our Florala High School Ag Ed and FFA students just wrapped up a small build for our program. They designed and constructed a full exterior wall on our shop to create much-needed dry storage as we continue to grow. This was not a pre-made plan. The students took their own ideas, measured everything out, and shaped the design from start to finish.

They learned how to think through structure, plan for weather exposure, and make decisions that affect long-term durability. They worked through setbacks, checked their own measurements, and learned what it takes to make a wall stand straight and true. It gave them a real look at the kind of problem solving that happens every day in the trades.

The students also designed and built a custom dual sliding door system so we can move equipment in and out with ease. Even the sliding track hardware was built in our shop. This pushed them to sketch out ideas, test what would work, and adjust their design until the doors operated smoothly.

This project taught more than construction. It taught teamwork, communication, and pride in doing meaningful work. The students can look at this wall and know they built something that will serve our program for years to come. They earned every bit of that pride.

Some of the skills utilized in the project are problem solving, math, framing, metal fabrication, and welding among many others.
