Our Fire Fighter & Hero, Walter, celebrated his 99th Birthday this morning!! His former company, Lakeview Fire Department 🚒, and a few family members stopped by for a Surprise Birthday Parade 🎉 We L♥️VE You Walter!! So grateful for your many years of sacrifice and service to our communities. HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎉Certainly one we know you’ll never forget.

Meet Doris Anne and Forrest McMullen! Doris Anne & Forrest met at school as teachers in late January 1957. At the end of the school year, Forrest wanted to date Doris Anne who was spending the summer studying at Tanglewood in Massachusetts. In search of her contact information, he called her home. Her grandfather answered but refused provide any information. This didn’t stop Forrest, he showed up at the family’s home the following day to ask in person. Grandfather answered the door. No luck again, her father’s orders.

A few days later Forrest got into his car and drove from Long Island to Lenox, Massachusetts to find her. After a little sleuthing and armed with a dozen roses, he found Doris Anne on Friday night at 10:00 P.M. When he finally found her, she already had a date scheduled for the next evening! But even THAT wouldn’t stop Forrest. Eventually his persistence paid off and they have been married 61 years now.

Meet Ellen Stankewick! She has been a resident of Jefferson’s Ferry since 2013. Growing up, Ellen always knew she wanted to be a Nurse. She was able to accomplish her dream and worked as a Nurse for 15 years. She got her RN certification at St. Vincent’s in New York and her Bachelor’s Degree at NYU. She has three kids and 9 grandchildren, two of which are twins! Ellen grew up in Bell Harbor, Queens.
