10 years ago, I took a leap of faith and started a small business called Drinks of Essence.
It all began with spiked treats—infused chocolate-covered strawberries, Jello shots, drunken gummy bears, and infused fruit. From there, I expanded into mobile bartending and later opened Fruits of Elegance, my brick-and-mortar storefront.
After closing Fruits of Elegance, I took time to evaluate my next chapter—all while working full-time as a social worker. I then launched a bartending training facility on Flushing Road, where I spent a little over two years building the vision even further.
After returning from maternity leave, I unexpectedly lost my full-time job. To this day, I don't know why—and I've made peace with that. What I do know is that it pushed me to bet on myself.
In 2019, Drinks of Essence became the only Black-owned bartending school in Mid-Michigan, opening a new location in Burton.
Then, in 2023, I made one of the best decisions of my life: moving my business to Downtown Flint and rebranding. That move opened the door to even greater opportunities.
This journey has not been easy. There were challenges, sacrifices, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. But there was also incredible support—from my community, the City of Flint, local programs, my friends, family, staff, loyal clients, and everyone who believed in my vision.
Most importantly, I thank God. Faith. Family. Drive. Perseverance. Strength. Those are the foundations that carried me through.
Today, I am incredibly proud to celebrate 10 years in business.
Thank you to everyone who has trusted my brand, supported my vision, and been part of this journey. I truly couldn't have done it without you.
Mark your calendars for October 3rd as we celebrate this incredible milestone—10 years in business and 3 amazing years in Downtown Flint!
I love and appreciate you all. Here's to the next chapter! 🖤🥂
