Marian E. Wright Writing Center

Marian E. Wright Writing Center Saving the world, one paragraph at a time! The Writing Center is a place where students can come to get help with writing.

Our tutors are primarily students at UM-Flint who want to help others become more confident writers. Through collaboration and discussion, tutors can help students identify areas in their writing that can be strengthened. We work with students, faculty, and staff from a variety of disciplines on many different types of writing. We work with brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and citing--w

herever you are in the process. In addition, we have speaking services to help students with presentations and public speaking.

We hope you’re having a nice little break between the semesters. We here at the Marian E. Wright Writing Center are off this week, but that just gives us even more time to work on our own personal writing projects. We hope you’ll join us!

This week, whether it’s fiction or a personal narrative, write about a very important meal: how it’s made, what’s in it, and who is sitting down to eat it

If you’ve written something you love or just want to work on over break, we’d love to have a look at it when we reconvene at the start of the fall semester! In the meantime, relax, chill, and happy writing!

Cole is another English major (can you tell we’re collecting them?) with a million hobbies, including acting, painting, reading, ceramics, stained-glass, graphic design, miniatures, cooking, baking, embroidery, print-making, writing, drawing, and Dnd. His favorite book is Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

He loves to tutor creative writing and essays, and his favorite kind of tutoring session is a brainstorming session, so if you’re looking to start something new, you know who to see!

With only a few tutors left to meet, we hope you’ll stick with us online and, as we enter the fall semester, maybe come see us in person?

Happy Wednesday from the Marian E. Wright Writing Center!

As the semester comes to a close, it’s a good idea to take some time to be creative and make sure you stretch your creative writing muscles with something that isn’t a term paper.

This week’s writing prompt is to Write a Story in the form of a letter from one character to another. Where are they sending it from? Are they saying exactly what they mean, or are there messages hidden within the words?

We’d love to talk about anything you come up with at an appointment online or here in the Marian E. Wright Writing Center. You can also bring your writing (of any kind!) to our Rough Draft Cafe, a Community Writing Center, which is hosted in the Kommareddi room at the Flint Public Library every Thursday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, no appointment needed!

We hope everyone has a wonderful end of the semester and a lovely little break before we’re back at it for the Fall 2026 Semester! We’ll see you all very soon!

Oliver is a former Writing Center regular who has been promoted to Tutor! He is an aspiring archeologist who loves thrifting, cozy games, puzzle games, clowns, and animals. He has a myriad of pets (3 dogs and 8 cats) and loves comic books. If you want to talk about Daredevil, the X-Men, or DnD, Oliver is certainly a contenter.

Oliver’s favorite book is “Wonderstruck” by Brian Selznick.

Come see Oliver (and our other amazing Tutors) at the Writing Center come Fall Semester!
