GEC and FCCA High School Students!

As the countdown to the new school year continues, we're excited to introduce the DPS 2026 School Resource Officer for GEC and FCCA at the University of Michigan-Flint, Officer James Wheeler!

To help you get to know him, here are a few "personal facts" about your new SRO Officer, James Wheeler!

Favorite color: Blue... especially when it's in a thin line.
Favorite place to hang out: The DPS Range.
Favorite song: Bad Boys ("Whatcha gonna do...").
Greatest joy: When pedestrians actually wait for the crossing signal.
Favorite life memory: Being sworn in as a University of Michigan-Flint DPS officer.
Favorite movie: Ride Along

Okay... some of these answers might be slightly exaggerated! 😄
The real way to get to know Officer Wheeler is to stop by and say hello when school starts.

Be sure to give him a high five on the first day of class. Enjoy the rest of your summer... this is the best part....we'll see you soon! Real soon!!!! FCCA starts August 17th!!!

Okay, we think we're funny. That was just cruel. Ofc. Wheeler is much nicer than us :)

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ed Fryer, our beloved former maintenance technician at Northbank Center. Ed passed away this past Saturday.

For many years, Ed was an important part of the Northbank Center community and the University of Michigan–Flint campus. He was known not only for his hard work and dedication, but also for his kindness, dependability, and willingness to help anyone who needed it. Ed took tremendous pride in caring for the building and supporting the people who worked here, and his presence made a lasting impact on many of us.

Those who knew Ed will remember his warm personality, strong work ethic, humor, and the genuine care he showed to others every day. He will be deeply missed by colleagues, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Please keep Ed’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home in Flint on Wednesday, May 27th at 2:00 p.m.

HOME
A U-M Flint Senior Exhibition by Catie Cunningham

🗓 Open May 8th – June 8th
Flint Artwalk Opening Reception: Friday, May 8th | 6–9 PM

“Home” explores the relationship between an individual and their environment, touching on how the people, places, and experiences build an individual’s identity. Through expressionist paintings, the show asks questions about what of our past we must carry with us and what’s better left behind. Using imagery from artist Catie Cunningham’s family archive, “Home” acts as a love letter and goodbye to her childhood as she prepares to move away from her hometown of Flint, Michigan.

The Latinos United for Advancement, or LUNA, hosted its second LUNA Quinceañera event on April 1 in the Grand Ballroom in the Northbank Center. Bringing a traditional cultural celebration to campus while advancing the organization’s mission of cultural education and community engagement.

“I am so proud of LUNA’s executive board. They are amazing students with great academic records, yet they all set aside a lot of time and effort to make the quinceañera celebration happen,” Stephanie Vidaillet Gelderloos, an English faculty member at the University of Michigan-Flint and the adviser of LUNA, said.
