Mott Community College President Accused of Proselytizing
The Board of Trustees met Wednesday to discuss claims that Shaunda Richardson-Snell made inappropriate religious remarks to students and campus visitors. It sparked fierce debate among community members.

We are aware of recent reports that accuse Mott President Shaunda Richardson-Snell of religious proselytization at Mott Community College events. The nonprofit, nonpartisan organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State recently sent a letter to the Mott Board of Trustees and President Richardson-Snell expressing concerns about the allegations. The Mott Board has scheduled a special meeting for February 18th at 5:30 p.m. in the Regional Technical Center Auditorium (RTC), located on the College's main campus to discuss the issue.
MCCEA has previously raised similar concerns about the importance of separating personal beliefs from professional responsibilities. In October 2025, we formally notified Human Resources and the college's general counsel about President Richardson-Snell's expression of personal religious beliefs in her leadership role at official Mott Community College events.
We respect the rights of all individuals to practice their faith and we value diversity, including religious diversity. The MCCEA Faculty Union supports an environment where every member of the college community feels safe and respected.
As a public institution, Mott Community College must maintain an inclusive atmosphere, free from undue influence or pressure related to religious beliefs. Professional standards require that religious conduct in the workplace be kept separate from personal faith.
MCCEA Faculty Union is ready to work with college leadership, the Board of Trustees, and our community to address these issues respectfully and constructively. Our priority is the well-being of our members, our students, and the integrity of our college.
