This week, The Mitigation Safety Institute had the pleasure of hosting an AMRT (Applied Microbial Remediation Technician) class, taught by the highly experienced Industry Teacher, Rachel Adamas. The class was filled with dedicated professionals from a variety of companies, all eager to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of mitigation safety.

Throughout the course, students learned how to properly build containment and followed best practices for mold and sewage remediation. They also completed their exams to earn their AMRT certificates, marking a significant achievement in their careers.

It is about time, today, Feb 5, the Justice Department proposes significant changes to address disparities in state crime victim funds. Thousands of Americans each year turn to the state-run victim compensation programs that provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime. The money helps with funeral expenses, physical and emotional therapy, lost wages, and crime scene cleanup.

States must increase crime scene cleanup assistance for families within state-run victim compensation programs. According to a small sample size of industry professionals, the average cost of crime scene cleaning is between $3,000 - $4,999.00… Do you understand that 41 states would not deliver enough financial aid to cover an average crime scene cleanup job in the United States. Table B is from an article I wrote, examining the amount each state pays. The lack of support leaves families alone, mostly cleaning up the scenes themselves. This is an area that needs to be addressed.

UC Davis Health reported that, in 2020, on average, there were approximately 14 more incidents of firearm violence in the least-privileged zip codes compared to the most privileged zip codes. We are leaving vulnerable communities/individuals without assistance.
