Our annual wetland field trip may not have included canoeing this year thanks to strong wind gusts, but safety always comes first! 🌬️🛶

The adventure still continued as students explored the wetland ecosystem through pond dipping, identifying fascinating organisms living beneath the surface. 🐟🦠🌿 We also hiked the trails, played ecosystem bingo, and examined real artifacts connected to the plants and animals that call the wetlands home.

Sometimes the best learning happens when plans change. Today was all about getting outside, exploring nature, and connecting with the environment firsthand.

From tiny eggs to thriving parr, our 7th graders proudly released 90 salmon today! 🐟🌊 What an incredible journey it has been raising and caring for these fish in our classroom while learning the importance of protecting our environment and ecosystems.
Students documented their observations in their salmon journals, tested river water quality, reflected, used handheld microscopes, and celebrated a day full of science, teamwork, and outdoor fun. ☀️🔬📖
We wrapped up this unforgettable release day with sweet treats from Dairy Queen 🍦 because after months of dedication and hands-on learning, our students earned it!

🌎💚 It’s going to be a brighter day because my students are learning to love and take care of our precious Earth.
From upcycling old t-shirts into wearable art 🎨👕
to creating Earth Day posters 🌍
decorating pots and planting wildflowers to start gardens at home 🌼🪴
and helping clean up around our school ♻️✨
These students are learning that even small acts of kindness toward our planet can make a big difference. Proud of their creativity, teamwork, and commitment to making the world a better place — one project at a time. 💙🌎

The Winter Solstice is caused by Earth’s tilted axis. During the Northern Hemisphere’s winter, the land north of the equator is tilted away from the sun, which lowers the amount of the sun’s energy warming the Northern Hemisphere. The Earth’s axial tilt is 23.5 degrees reaching its maximum point away from the Sun for one hemisphere, resulting in the shortest day and longest night as that part of the planet receives the least direct sunlight.

✨ Why Salmon in the Classroom Is Pure Magic ✨🐟
Having salmon in the classroom does more than teach life cycles — it brings out the best in students. When kids help care for the tank, monitor water quality, and watch the salmon grow, they learn responsibility, empathy, and respect for living things in a hands-on, meaningful way.
Students become curious scientists, compassionate caretakers, and proud stewards of the environment. Watching them work together to protect something so small — and eventually release it into the wild — is powerful. 🌱💧
Classroom salmon don’t just teach science.

Welcome to the “crazy-teacher led, chaotic, project based, notebook bringing, fun learning, place” we call home. Our Salmon in the Classroom project kicked off yesterday with 150 salmon eggs. Middle school life: Joy, Shade and Confusion!! 💙🤍

This summer I decided to work an enrichment program that my district was offering. I haven’t worked in the summer as far as education goes in at least 17 years. But the pay was good and it was only M-Thurs 1-4pm for a month. I decided to take it back to my roots 2nd grade, where I started. I did arts and crafts. Here’s how it went….❤️❤️
