In our childcare setting, shape activities are more than just learning circles and squares — they are opportunities for children to strengthen fine motor skills, communication, creativity, and early cognitive development. Through hands-on play, exploration, and everyday experiences, children are building important math foundations that will support future learning success.

*The Importance of Newsletters in Our Daycare*

Newsletters play an important role in keeping families connected and informed in our daycare program.

We send out **two different newsletters** to support communication and understanding.

The first is our **curriculum newsletter**, which shares what children are learning such as letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and other educational goals from our program. This helps families stay involved in their child’s learning and continue it at home.

The second is a **formal daycare newsletter**, which includes important updates such as licensing reminders, upcoming changes, scheduled closures, and general facility information. This ensures parents are always aware of important details and stay fully informed about our program.

Together, these newsletters help build strong communication between home and daycare while supporting a safe, organized, and educational environment for every child.

Getting outdoors is so beneficial for children of all ages. The fresh air, open space, exploration, and hands-on learning opportunities provide experiences that simply cannot be recreated indoors. While indoor activities are important, children were not meant to spend all day inside a building.

Nature is one of the greatest educational tools we can offer children. The outdoors encourages curiosity, imagination, problem-solving, communication, creativity, and gross motor development all at once. Whether children are exploring textures, observing insects, running freely, climbing, or simply enjoying the environment around them, they are constantly learning.

Outdoor play also supports emotional regulation, confidence, independence, and overall well-being. Some of the best childhood memories and learning experiences happen outside, where children can truly explore, discover, and grow.

We are outside today enjoying the South Dakota wind! 🌤️

Our little 1-year-old is already excelling in ladder drills, and moments like this are such an important reminder of how powerful outdoor play and gross motor development truly are. 💪

Climbing, stepping, balancing, and learning how to move their body through obstacles helps children strengthen both big and small muscles while building coordination, balance, confidence, and body awareness. These activities may look like simple play, but they are helping children develop the foundation for everyday skills as they grow.

Gross motor play encourages independence, problem-solving, focus, and physical strength — all while allowing children to explore, challenge themselves, and have fun in the process. Watching little ones accomplish big things is always the best part of the day. 🌟

At our childcare program, we recognize the importance of having multiple outdoor playground spaces that support a wide range of age groups and developmental stages. We intentionally meet children where they are in their gross motor development, providing safe and engaging opportunities that match their current abilities.

As children grow and develop, their play skills and physical needs evolve as well. Our outdoor environment is designed to grow with them, offering a variety of functional playground systems that encourage climbing, balancing, running, coordination, and imaginative play.

Having multiple play areas allows us to support all ages appropriately while promoting confidence, independence, and physical development through meaningful outdoor experiences.

Before the heat sets in, we make it a priority to get outside in the morning and complete our morning routine outdoors. This allows children to engage in large motor activities, release energy, and transition into the day in a calm and purposeful way.

Outdoor mornings also support children in regulating their emotions and setting the tone for what kind of day they will have. On Mondays especially, children are transitioning back into structure, routines, learning expectations, and opportunities for independence after the weekend.

This time is important for building confidence, encouraging independence, and supporting children as they adjust, grow, and thrive within a consistent learning environment.
