Northern Arizona Interfaith Council (NAIC) has long advocated for greater state support for public schools and decries the ongoing attempts by our state elected officials to defund public education. As a result, Flagstaff Unified School District is forced to find local support for essential educational programs, including early intervention preschool, athletics, art, and music programs. This budget override will support programs that benefit all families.

"We must do our part as citizens in our community to maintain modern and safe facilities for students to learn in, and staff to work in, since our state government has failed to fulfill their responsibility. Vote yes on 448."

"Our family feels fortunate to live in a district that supports its schools and we are thankful the school district offers excellent educational opportunities. Providing proper school facilities, quality infrastructure and competitive technology advancements are critical to the success of our students."

Our experience with city government, the school district governing board and now with Flagstaff Unified School District's (FUSD) Bond Oversight Committee gives us great confidence that FUSD is providing real value with our tax dollars.

"This [Proposition 447] is NOT a tax increase. It keeps the current tax rate in place and ensures that Flagstaff’s students will continue to have a high quality teacher in every classroom by attracting and retaining the best, something that the state can’t seem to recognize as important enough to fund."

FUSD will upgrade transportation and maintenance facilities, replace high-mileage buses, and continue technology upgrades for 21st century learning. Funds will also support improvements to Camp Colton, which has provided unique nature-based educational experiences for FUSD and non-FUSD students alike for over 50 years. These investments will have impacts on the quality of our students’ education for many years to come.

“As a district volunteer, I understand how crucial override funds are to the stability of the district’s maintenance and operations budget. These funds support current levels of academic programming and staffing, funding for full-day kindergarten, instructional aides, and smaller class sizes.”

The State of Arizona significantly reduced funding to school districts for building repairs and improvements in 2008, so we must act locally to address the district’s most urgent needs in facilities maintenance. In passing this bond, we will keep this pillar of our community strong, ensure our kids’ safety, and continue to prioritize education in our community. We urge you to vote YES for Prop 448 - the Flagstaff Unified School District bond.
