Last month, Firefighter Jake visited Sinagua Middle School to teach students about the fire triangle and the PASS System. Students were asked to practice using the PASS system, which is how fire extinguishers are used. Pull the pin, aim low at the base of the fire, squeeze the trigger, and sweep it side to side. Students also used a website called Xplorlabs, where they investigated a fire that started in a kitchen and tried to find what started the fire.

SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES

Flagstaff Bone and Joint has appointments available for student-athletes to complete their sports physicals for the upcoming school year. Please see the information below:

525 North Switzer Canyon Drive, Flagstaff, AZ 86001

Only $10 (Cash Only, No Insurance Needed). All proceeds are donated to the athlete’s athletic program!

Athletes should visit www.aiaonline.org/about/forms to complete their portion of the paperwork before arriving. Please fill out two forms: Form 15.7-A and Form 15.7-B.

Minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Bring glasses or contacts for vision testing and wear easy-to-remove shoes.

SMS participated in our annual River Trip down the San Juan River with GCY! GCY provides opportunities for youth to experience the outdoors in a unique way. Students spend 4-5 days on the river, spending time on the water, sleeping under the stars, cooking meals for the entire camp, learning about the history, and building new connections.

Last week, Sinagua Middle School's very own Cross Cat 1 & 2 students had a blast at their Water Day! It was the perfect way to celebrate and reinforce our UNIQUE curriculum by blending hands-on sensory exploration, teamwork, and motor skill development in a fun, real-world setting. Happy Summer! 😎☀️

Earlier this month, Mrs. Robinson's 8th-grade culinary arts students had the opportunity to tour Texas Roadhouse. They were able to see both the front of the house and the back of the house, including the expo line and bread-making area. Students were able to walk around with trays to practice what it's like to serve. Students were given food and asked to buss their own area. What a great experience for Sinagua Middle School students.

Earlier this week, students from Mrs. Severance’s 7th-period science class visited Purina as part of our year-long STEM partnership. Students learned how to use a fire extinguisher, how 300,000 packages of dog food move through a warehouse, and the importance of teamwork when working in a large company. They also learned how Purina uses “Spot”, the robotic dog, to help monitor all of the machines at Purina. It was a great year of learning!
