Look who stopped by the TRIO SSS office today on his way to his PhD Progam at Michigan State University. The one and only Mr. John Byrd! 💫

John was a TRIO tutor extraordinaire and CCC student with a passion for teaching and reframing the mindset of how students perceive themselves with respect to the study of Physics.

In 2019, John was awarded the All Arizona Academic Scholarship which helped him pay for his tuition at ASU.

Last week, John earned his Bachelor's in Physics and was accepted into the prestigious Doctoral of Physics Education Program at MSU❗️

Meet the 2022 TRIO Scholar of the Year, Rosa Ortiz!

This year’s TRIO Scholar of the year is Rosa Ortiz. Rosa joined TRIO SSS in August 2019 and we have been lucky to have her and watch her move toward her educational goals.

She has been very involved with TRIO and campus life, she joined us on the Student Leadership Retreat, multiple volunteer projects, always meets with her advisor, and studies weekly in our TRIO offices. She worked in Financial aid as a Federal Work-study student, she has been an active member of the Associated Latino American Students club, helping to start up the ALAS scholarship for undocumented students, and always takes part in the fundraisers on campus.

We will never forget, one of Rosa's toughest semesters here at CCC, she was struggling with classes and with life, but she was still showing up regularly in the TRIO office to work on her school work and study for hours. At the end of that tough semester, Rosa said "she would come back stronger" and that’s exactly what she did. She passed the following semester with stellar grades!

Rosa’s determination and resilience have truly set her apart this year. Moving forward, Rosa will be graduating with her Pre-Health degree (with honors), and she plans to apply to the CCC Nursing program.

We look forward to seeing her achieve all her goals! CONGRATULATIONS!! 🙌👩‍🎓🎓

We are proud to showcase our 27 TRIO Scholars who were awarded various scholarships from the CCC Foundation Office for the 2022-2023 academic year- Totalling over $48,000 in scholarship money!

We've enjoyed a week filled with campus tours! Thank you to Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, and Northern Arizona University for rolling out the red carpet for our TRIO SSS students. They loved getting to experience different universities and "campus vibes" from all three! !
