ing a strong, graduate-level understanding of the theory and methods of social science as they apply to the creation, violation and enforcement of laws, including criminal, regulatory, administrative, and international law. Our goal is to ensure that program graduates are well prepared to undertake informed and thoughtful action as direct-service workers, administrators, research or scholars in areas related to law, crime, policy, and social justice. The Masters of Applied Criminology curriculum offers students the opportunity to specialize in one or more of the following areas:
1.Transnational Crime and Justice
2.Communities and Justice
3.Law, Policy and Social Change

In each area, students will examine the structure, operations, and limitation of the state and supra-state control systems used to resolve perceived social problems. To this end, the program takes a broad view of what constitutes justice problems, with courses and faculty research ranging from interpersonal issues to large-scale corporate and international issues. In addition of offering a range of sustentative area options, the MS in Applied Criminology offers four capstone completion options:
1.Thesis
2.Exam
3.Internship
4.Teaching Practicum
Students can select the completion option most consistent with their future aspirations, whether it is employment in the justice system, working for a national or international non-governmental organization (NGO), or pursuing further graduate study in criminology or criminal justice.

✨Grad Student Spotlight!✨

Megan Marshall is a 2nd Year Master’s Student in Applied Criminology and will be graduating this Spring! 🎓

She is currently the Vice President for the Graduate Student Association (GSA) and the SBS Representative and Director of Marketing and Media for Graduate Student Government (GSG). She also represents GSG as a member of the Student Wellness Advisory Group. She currently works as a GA for a project through the Center for Community Health and Engaged Research (CHER). Her research interests are on the intersection of disability and the criminal justice system, and she is defending her thesis this month. She is also a dual-enrolled student, taking courses through the University of South Florida as part of a certification program. This certificate is through the Institute for Translational Research Education in Adolescent Substance Use (ITRE). As part of this program, she has developed an evidence-based practice curriculum implementation model in partnership with Native Americans for Community Action (NACA). Through her various roles, she has had the opportunity to attend multiple conferences: ACCJH twice, WSSA once, and ITRE twice. This year, Megan celebrated her first coauthor credit on a published research article and is working on a second publication based on her partnership with ITRE and NACA.
