📚➕ Math is better when it’s HANDS-ON! ➕📚

Mrs. Carelock’s 2nd grade class jumped into HMH Math Module 2: Equal Groups last week and these kiddos were hard at work! 💛

Instead of just looking at equal groups on a page, everyone got down on the carpet and built them themselves. Students used counters to create groups, count objects, compare their groups, and make sure each group had an equal number.

There were lots of counting, moving, checking, fixing, talking, and—most importantly—LEARNING! 🧠✨

Ms. Carelock shared, “I love watching math concepts click when students can actually touch, move, and SEE the math they’re learning.”❤️

Module 2, we’re ready for you! 🙌 Test day is tomorrow.

☀️ Character Counts: Trustworthiness- Week 4 ☀️

We’re continuing to grow in our understanding of trustworthiness at Ben Hill Primary! 💜💛

In Ms. Rowe’s class, students combined character education with writing as they wrote about what it means to be trustworthy. They even illustrated their writing with pictures of themselves guiding and helping a friend. ✏️

We love seeing our students learn important character traits while strengthening their writing skills along the way! Character Counts at BHP! 🌟

🌟 Our Gifted First Graders Are Off to an Amazing Start! 🌟

What a fantastic first week with our incredible first grade gifted learners! 🎉

This week, our students completed their "All About Me" projects, giving everyone a chance to share what makes them unique.

From their families and favorite activities to their hidden talents, personality traits, and dreams, each student proudly introduced themselves in creative and colorful ways. These projects not only helped us get to know one another, but also celebrated the individuality and strengths that each child brings to our classroom.

We are so proud of their hard work, confidence, and enthusiasm. We can't wait to see all the learning, creativity, and growth this amazing group will accomplish this year. Here's to a wonderful year of discovery, friendship, and success! 💙📚🍎

Parent Engagement Night: “Back in the Swing of Things!”

We had a great time last Thursday at our first parent engagement event. Thank you so much to all of our parents and families who were able to come out and join us.

After a short informational session, families were able to rotate through four different stations.

📝 Are you smarter than your student?
-Parents were challenged on words with long and short vowel sounds, spelling patterns, syllables, phonemes and graphemes. All rules and knowledge our students are leaning.
🍝 Spaghetti Tower
-How tall is your tower? Families had 1 marshmallow, and 20 noodles with tape to see how tall they could build a tower.

-What represents your family? Draw and create your own family banner.

-What word, signal, locations, etc. do you know when transitioning around the building?

This month, we’re shining a light on our first Character Counts pillar: TRUSTWORTHINESS! 💛

Our students are learning what it means to be trustworthy, how our words and actions build trust, and why it’s important to be someone others can count on. They’re also learning how to recognize and build trust with others. 🤝

Today, Ms. Braddy’s 2nd grade classroom put trust into action with a trust walk that challenged students to listen, communicate, and trust one another while using soft and true verbal clues! 💫

We’re growing strong minds AND strong character at BHP! ☀️💜💛

Classroom Highlight: Kindergarten is learning about the letter /Mm/ this week! Check out Ms. Sewell’s fun classroom activity!

🎨 Students participated in a letter writing activity to practice writing upper and lowercase /Mm/

💫 Teacher Magic is utilizing a utensil that begins with an /m/ as their writing tool! They incorporated marshmallows!

❤️ Parents, if you have a kindergarten student you can play a game to search for items in your home that start with the letter /m/. This is a fun way to continue practicing at home what students are learning at school!

💜 Great job, Ms. Sewell on incorporating such a fun and engaging activity!

Classroom Highlight: Our students in the Red Birds are soaring! Check out their hard work practicing pre-writing skills ❤️

📝The Red Bird’s class practiced pre-writing strokes today! We learned to “Touch, pull down” and practiced holding writing tools the correct way.

Classroom Highlight: Check out two of our first grade classes, Ms. Martin & Ms. Cook, building teen numbers using two different strategies!

🔢 Students built teen numbers using hands-on manipulatives- base ten blocks or play-doh.

🖐️This hands-on activity made place value more engaging by helping students visually and physically understand that numbers are made up of tens and ones.

💜 Great job to our teachers for sharing ideas and strategies with one another to support engaging lessons and activities!
