Neutron Imaging services for suppliers of safe, high-performing products in aerospace and defense

02/24/2026

Sometimes the difference between mission failure and success comes down to seeing what others can't.

When United Launch Alliance detected anomalies in a rocket booster carrying critical national security payload, traditional NDT methods couldn't identify the issue.

Our neutron imaging pinpointed the exact problem, enabling repairs that:
✅ Avoided a 3-month mission delay
✅ Saved $15-20M in replacement costs
✅ Successfully deployed the payload

"The imaging services provided by Phoenix brought us to a solution when other types of pre-screening and nondestructive testing methods could not." - Sheryl Platte, Director, Supply Chain Management, ULA

The next generation of engineers is going to change the world. We want to help them get there.

This month, we'll be on the UW Madison campus twice. On Feb 19, we're joining the "Ask an Expert: Clean Energy" panel to share what a career in energy really looks like. And on Feb 26, our team is on the ground at "Introduce the Future to Engineering Day," connecting with high school students from across Wisconsin who are exploring nuclear engineering for the first time.

Interest in nuclear is growing, especially in Wisconsin — and the career paths are wider than most people think. Clean energy, medical isotopes, neutron imaging, fusion.

The Army has over 400,000 tons of demilitarized explosives that need inspection before disposal.

Traditional X-ray can't see through dense metal casings to evaluate the organic explosive materials inside.

But neutron imaging can—potentially saving lives and preventing accidents.

What's inside your Christmas decorations? Neutron imaging shows us.
What's inside your turbine blade? We show you that too.
Here's to a season of discovery and zero surprises.
Happy holidays from the Phoenix team!

Why use neutrons for testing instead of X-rays?

X-rays "see" dense materials like metal but pass through lighter ones. Neutrons do the opposite—they pass through metal easily but reveal light materials like moisture, plastics, and residue.

Our neutron imaging business uses this to inspect critical aerospace and defense components—catching hidden defects before parts ever leave the ground.
