Today we mourn the loss of iconic country singer Dolly Parton, whom passed away yesterday at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.
Dolly has a massive and beloved discography, including hits like "9 to 5," "Jolene," and "I Will Always Love You."
Dolly Parton was one of the most honored country performers, earning eleven Grammy Awards and three Emmy Awards, as well as nominations for two Academy Awards, six Golden Globes and a Tony Award. She was also known for her cultural influence and philanthropy via Dollywood and the Dollywood Foundation. With more than 100 million records sold, she is among the best-selling music artists of all time.
Dolly came from humble beginnings, often referencing a poverty-stricken childhood where her mother would hand sew patchwork coats for her to wear. Later in life, she used her riches to support causes like her Imagination Library, which sends books to children in an effort to fight illiteracy.
Dolly unfortunately passed away before the opening of her museum, "Dolly's Life of Many Colors," this October. She also will miss the opening night of her broadway musical, "Dolly: A True Original Musical," set to open in January of 2027.
