The best STEM learning doesn’t always come with one “right” answer. STEM kits can give students opportunities to experiment, test ideas, learn from failure, and try again, building problem-solving skills along the way.

This month’s blog explores how hands-on STEM experiences can encourage students to think critically, collaborate, and become more confident problem-solvers.

First day. Fresh start. Transformed space.

As students return to Holmes Elementary School in Ypsilanti Community Schools today, we’re excited to share a before-and-after look at the work completed in their new Holmes STEAM Center!

Through our new Makerspace Makeover service, the 1st Maker Space team transformed these spaces through intentional organization, clearly defined learning zones, accessible materials, and systems designed to make hands-on learning easier to manage and sustain.

A great makerspace isn’t just about what’s in the room. It’s about creating an environment where students and educators can easily find what they need, explore ideas, create, and learn.

We’re excited for the Holmes STEAM community to make these spaces their own this school year!

Hands-on learning starts with educators who are excited to explore alongside their students!

We recently spent time with staff from Bainbridge Elementary and Roachdale Elementary Schools in their new makerspace, exploring how the tools and equipment can support play-based learning, entrepreneurship, career awareness, and meaningful hands-on experiences.

The enthusiasm and creativity these educators brought to the day were inspiring. We can’t wait to see how they use their new spaces to give students opportunities to explore, create, problem-solve, and discover new possibilities for their futures.
