Father’s Day is about more than biology.

For many people, a father is someone who showed up. Someone who offered love, guidance, protection, encouragement, and support. Someone who helped you feel seen, valued, and safe. Someone who made space for you to grow into who God created you to be.

Sometimes that person was your biological father. Sometimes it was a stepfather, grandfather, mentor, coach, pastor, or another man who chose to be present and invest in your life.

But Father’s Day can also stir up pain.

For those who experienced absence, rejection, abandonment, criticism, or a relationship that never felt secure, this holiday can awaken old wounds and remind us of needs that went unmet. Grief often surfaces around what should have been but wasn’t.

From a therapeutic perspective, those early relationships can shape how we see ourselves, others, and even God. They can influence our sense of worth, trust, belonging, and connection. Acknowledging that impact is not about blame, it’s about understanding, healing, and growth.

As Christians, we are reminded that while earthly fathers are imperfect, we are deeply loved by a perfect Heavenly Father who never abandons us, never forgets us, and never stops pursuing our hearts. His love is steady, faithful, and healing.

At The Forgiveness Connection, we recognize that gratitude and grief can exist side by side. We can celebrate those who loved us well while also making space to mourn the hurts we carry. Both are part of the healing journey.

Today, we honor the fathers and father figures who have offered love, wisdom, encouragement, and presence. And for those who find this day difficult, we honor your story too.

May this Father’s Day be a reminder that healing is possible, hope remains, and you are deeply loved.

The Nuts & Bolts of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is much more than saying,
“I forgive you”.

At its core, forgiveness is releasing the belief that someone owes you something for what they did. It is letting go of the need for compensation, retribution, or the hope that their suffering will somehow heal your pain.

Forgiveness does not excuse harmful behavior. It does not erase accountability. And it does not require reconciliation.

Clinically, forgiveness is about freeing your mind and nervous system from carrying the weight of the injury. Spiritually, it is choosing to release what you cannot change and entrust justice to God.

There are three important parts of forgiveness:
✨ Forgiving yourself
✨ Forgiving others
✨ Giving others permission to forgive you

And if a relationship is unsafe, forgiveness can still happen. You do not need contact, conversation, or reconciliation to do forgiveness work. It can take place with God, with a therapist, or within your own healing journey.

Sometimes the greatest act of forgiveness is not setting someone else free—it’s setting yourself free. 💛
