LESSON 3: MEET THE CHARLESTON

This is a long one but often the part of the game that confuses players.

The Charleston is simply the name of how the tiles are passed around during the deal before game play begins.

It gets its name because, like dance stes, tiles get passed Right then Over then Left and then again Left Over Right. It ends with a final optional pass and then gameplay begins!

LESSON TWO: MEET THE CARD

The National Mahjong League releases a new card every year and that is what tells us what is a winning mahjong hand in American mahjong.

I recommend only buying your cards from the official website www.nationalmahjonggleague.org to avoid any counterfeit cards.

This exercise of practicing hands is one of the best places to start to understand how a hand comes together.

Are you living inside an answered prayer but too busy to even notice?

Jeff and I prayed that our kids would have the opportunity to start their adult lives debt free in a career with purpose, that they would know Jesus and would get to live their lives not as we did, but as the 2.0 version of us.

But I almost missed the realization that we are living out these things we have so long prayed for.

Because in the same season I’ve been in filled with so many blessings there has also been a lot of hard - navigating real change in my business, taking the biggest professional exam of my career and managing this “sandwich generation.” There have been so many days of running on empty while the thing I prayed for was arriving.

Here’s what I’m learning: we are so wired to keep going that we blow right past our own milestones. Nobody teaches us how to actually receive what we worked for.

So before I get on a plane Friday for Jeff and I to take a dream trip to celebrate out 30th anniversary, I’m doing something intentional. I’m naming the chapter.

The one where everything I prayed for arrived and I almost missed it.
